wtfooptimax200
I am heading to El Salto for the first time in June and want to paint some baits for the trip. I have seen tilapia pictures that show the blue tilapia (like those in Amistad) as well as darker (brown, green, black, gold) colored almost bluegill looking tilapia Does anyone have any experience on the lake? What is the most prevalent subspecies in El Salto?
tigerfire
Actually, the tilapia on Amistad are the green tilapia. The tilapia on Falcon are the blue tilapia. I have been told that the tilapia in El Salto are the same as Amistad, the green tilapia. I have not been to El Salto, so I can not say for sure. I fish Amistad a lot and also Falcon. I have attached several picutres that I have collected. If you want to paint some green tilapia cranks, I'll be more than glad to test them for you on Amistad! Amistad green tilapia... Falcon baby blue tilapia... El Salto baby tilapia...

tigerfire
Tom, That is sweeeeeeeeeeeeet. That would be a killer on Amistad right now. Nice job!
Chandler1693
The "El Salto baby tilapia..." is actually a young texas cichlid (Herichthys cyanoguttatus). I have kept them as pets for years, and have seen tons of them in the Texas Hill Country Rivers. RayburnGuy
Well, looks like I did a good version of the wrong fish, Yep, looks like you painted the wrong fish. You might as well send it to me since it probably won't catch anything being the "wrong fish".
