Ben that lure would killem in Vencie La. Bass and Reds

Very nice Ben I like it a lot. What are you using to attach the foil so you don't flatten the scaling while attaching to the body?

 

A few years back I did foiled balsa flyrod poppers for LM & SM bass but I used a knurled roller after attaching to the body. Worked ok with the flat popper sides. wouldn't work on most plugs tho.

@Bill........I'm using the Brite-Bak foil with the adhesive already applied to it Bill. While the sides of this bait aren't completely flat they're not overly rounded either. The foil was cut so it didn't run too far up onto the back or down onto the bottom either. This allowed me to just use slight pressure from my fingers to attach the foil and smooth it out. I also apply a coat of epoxy to smooth out the edges of the foil so that it leaves a smooth surface to paint on.

Looks really good Ben! How did the action turn out ? Also wondered if you went with one ballast or two ?

Thanks Vic. Haven't got to swim it yet though. I really do need to build a test tank since I don't get to the lake as much these days. This one has 2 ballast locations as the height of the lure wouldn't allow me to put it all in one place. Not using the belly weight/hook hanger combos anyway. The ballast could have been placed horizontally low in the belly, but I've gotten lazy. lol The belly hook hanger is one location and then another smaller weight was placed approximately 1/3 the distance from the belly weight to the tail. I'll try to remember to post the action once it gets to the lake.

Thanks Mark. I really didn't put a lot of thought into the paint job. This one was built mostly to see what the foil would look like with the scales done this way.

Thanks Hokie. Sometimes a picture will give more info than a dozen paragraphs. I'm kind of liking the way the foil looks on this one and am already planning on doing more of it.

Thanks Ryan. Once you get the hang of it foiling isn't that hard. It's like anything else you haven't tried before. There's always a learning curve involved. If I can be of any help with the foiling just give me a holler.
