Tit wire jig03

Great idea for double wire weed guard but it seems like a lot of work, good for a few baits but not a lot of production. I have to admit that every time you do a modification, it is really well thought out and executed, thanks for the pics and description.

Hey John. Long time no see. Sure glad you posted this second picture as I was about to go blind looking for the wires in the other one. They definitely blend in with the skirt. Nice concept and great job.

Thanks Ben. I just don't have much time to play with these things anymore. I m still working 6 days a week and have the two grand children age 4 and 5. They take most of what little spare time I have and I wouldn't trade that for anything. I do miss my time that I used to have for tinkering with lures. In less than a year, I will be 62 years old and am planning on retiring and very much look forward to having time again for the finer things in life such as tinkering with lures.

 

smalljaw, there is a couple of more efficient and quicker ways to make these jigs. one being to simply double the piece of titanium wire, insert it through a spinnerbait skirt collar/band and lay it in the mold with the collar slid down until it meets the edge of the mold cavity and the wire wire pushed in against the hook shank. then pour the jig and you have the guard already molded in. I have done this before with regular spring wire. the problem with this was getting the weed guard out of the way whiie tying on the skirt. this would work well for some one who banded their skirts. The other way would be to turn down the end of the aluminum pin that comes with the mold to 1/16 of an inch and you would have a clean, ready made and centered hole. I think I will give this one a go. If this works,  It would be great for those of us whom glue in their weed guards.

By the way, should want to know, the solid Titanium wire came from LPO.

Looks like LPO sells several different sizes of titanium wire...mind sharing which size you used here?  Thanks, Dan

If I remember correctly, it was the .016 55lb test.
