Your bait turned out real nice.  I have agonized over carving scales on a bait with the inherent difficulty getting them even and it is like a negative carve unlike layering actual scales.  Looks like your scales turned out great.  Unfortunately, I don't feel like the crappie pattern complemented the scales you carved and possibly even detracted from them.  If you painted that bait in a pattern that complimented the scales it would jump off the page!  With thru wire and that carve, you got a great bait going there.
