Wakin em' up

Nice carving job. This is the first time I've heard of a wake bait. I may try to make my own. Any advice on construction?

Thanks! I'm fairly new to it as well, but I've learned you do not want a heavy wood or other material, as that will bring the bait down in the water. Also try lip position at a 90 degree for best action without dive. 

Water has a Specific Gravity of 1.

Any wood or material with less than 1 will float.

I like eastern red cedar. It's easy to work, finishes beautifully, not too soft, and easy to weight. Besides, it smells great!

It does smell great.

I have used it for decking posts and didn't notice many knots if any. Another plus for making lures.

Cedar is a great choice! I used some coastal yellow cedar for this one I believe.
