The desired action I went for was for it to float, but when jerked to have a sporadic dash-dive motion. I was delighted when I tried it out that I had successfully achieved my goal! I recently finished this at 16 years old, and this is the first hand carved hard bait I've made. The total length of the lure is 4 inches (not counting the hooks). Below are the steps coordinating with the numbers on the image:

1. Small section of a maple branch that I used to make the lure
2. After hand carving it to be round, adding tapers, and sanding it smooth
3. Carved out the shape of the mouth
4. Sealing the wood
5. White base coat
6. Bottom yellow portion airbrushed on
7. Upper orange portion airbrushed on
Final pic is after adding the red in the mouth, and a final clear coat

Nice! I make a lot of micro cranks from willow branches. It's fun to work with sticks like this, and your lure looks great!

Thank you! Yes, they are a lot of fun to work with. There's also something neat about knowing the lure that you just made started as nothing more than a stick from your yard. :)
