A great American lure
This lure-model called "Whirligig" was designed in the late 1940's in Pennsylvania , but never commercialized . I found the building instructions in "The Book Of Lures" , by Charles K. Fox .
I made my first "Whirligig's" a few years ago , and that lure became one of my favourites for topwater piking , I'll always remember one day some years ago , when I had seven attacks of pike within a bit more than one hour on such a lure in a larger pond . Though I could only land four of them , it's been a great day for me:) .
I turn them on a lathe from Abache-wood , in lengths of 80 to 115 mm(25,4 mm make up for 1 inch) , the lure "walks-the-dog" on surface , on faster reeling it dives down to 1 to 1 1/2 feet , featuring a wide wiggle , but can also be made to dart sideward by rodtip manipulation .
greetings from Germany , diemai
