CL Rods

Mike (21xdc) inspired me to try these 1/2" x 3" Malasian hardwood dowel rod versions. A bit of a pita since I don't have a lathe or a way to turn them consistently. I think with a spray on finish or perhaps DN applied very thin, these would float even better. So the next batch will have changes in the seal coat and spray coat. Now if spring would roll around!

Baby Bass, Black Pearl and white with irredescent purple, Electric Sunfish, and my regular Blue gill. The Blue Gill is a tad fatter and sits a tad lower as it was the prototype and has one layer more of D2T.

Nice bunch of spooks you have made there , especially like the center one :yay:!

I like this lure type pretty much for summer piking , it's a sure fire weapon in waters over here , that don't have too much boat traffic !

Before I got a lathe , I also carved such lure blanks out of round wood dowels , I didn't find it that difficult .

I'd keep the center portion round and sanded the end tapers on a 40 grit sanding disc , first 4 planes square shape , after sanded off the corners to an octagonal shape , the final round shape I did by hand sanding .

Only good eyeballing , a calm hand and finally equal sanding strokes(by constant turning round the workpiece with the guidehand)required .

I assume , that these lures might dive down a few inches , since the toweye is located at the tip of the nose , got a "Berkley" topwater like that , and that one does dive !

If you want a pure topwater , its better to place the linetie a bit further downward under the chin .

Thanks Diemai, after I get these in the pond I will try a few with the line angled in at the bottom. The hangers are made using the twisted stainless steel wire and then screwed in so I will angle it in like the middle hanger.

And thanks Mike. How did your 3.5" versions float? I assume a tad better than the 3" versions.
