7" trout finished

Here are five of the six 7" trout I made from PVC decking. The sixth is tied on to my rod for tomorrow.

There are two floaters, weighing 70grams+-, and four sinkers, rate of fall 1'/second+-, which weigh approx. 80 grams each.

I found the PVC a little harder to machine than wood, but the baits are so much harder and impact resistant it is worth the extra work.

I did these as a test run, to see how long it would take per lure. It averages out to 2 1/2 hours each. With $15 in supplies, I think I'd have to sell them for $75 to make money, and make it worth my while.

But these are just for fun. One is already promised to a buddy for his birthday.

Once again, thanks to Captsully for the tails. :yay:

I like the high grade of alikeness , that you have achieved with those nice-looking trout patterns .

I assume , that PVC would have rather more advantages than disadvantages against wood , since all those sealing problems won't occur !

great job done , Mark :yay:! Greetz , Dieter

Thanks Dieter. I appreciate the compliment. I'm amazed at how well they came out. Just shows what practice will help someone achieve.

As for the PVC, it has two advantages.

First, of course, is it is totally waterproof, so no sealing is required, and water intrusion isn't an issue.

Second, even though it's buoyant, and the same weight as poplar, it's harder, so it takes my occasional encounters with rocks much more "in stride", with no denting or top coat damage. Once again, I was amazed, and pleasantly surprised.

Thanks Snax.

Funny, when I'm making and painting the lures, I don't even notice the hinge joints, other than to make them work.

But, seeing them hanging side by side, all of a sudden the joints jump out at me.

Just shows sometimes you can't see the woods for the trees.

Those are beauties and it is apparent you can repeat the process and to an extent "mass" produce them. I have been looking at wake baits and swim baits comparing their motions to their success in getting strikes. Please consider posting a video of the swimming action. I would like to see how it rocks and rolls!
