Mouse Spoon

Here are some of my latest spoons , made for a lure swap .

Made my first ones of this kind about one year ago , redesigned after an old spoon model , I suppose , of German origin:? .

That one had a single tail of leather or also cord to resemble a swimming mouse , hence it's name , "mouse spoon" .

My own versions are not as curved and also larger , approx. 3 1/5" without tail(I also made 4" versions) , cut and shaped out of 1 millimetre thick stainless steel sheet .

Top lure was heated to glow to achieve its dark color(not clear to be seen on pic) , bottom spoon ist plain polished .

Center lure is painted in "glow-in-the-dark" color , all spoons have beads attached and double tails of nylon cord in contrasting colors , fixed onto the hooks with a shrink tube .

Obviously these spoons don't cast too distant and also don't run too deep compared to more compact models .

They are real "Slo-Mo" lures , need to be retrieved quite slow , then they would "edge" from one site to the other , causing quite a bit of vibration in the rod tip , swimming and tracking their tail in a snake-like manner:yes: .

A faster retrieve would cause the spoons to to swim with their cupping upward and flutter like a dolphin's tail , so a slow presentation with occasional drop-downs would be far more attractive .

Dieter, I agree with Marks comments on your metal working skills. I always enjoy seeing the things that you make and most of the time when I see the pictures I know that it is yours before looking to see. Your creations are very different than most. It gives your lures that signature look.

Thank you for your kind words , John:yes: , in fact I have learned the metal working basics during my apprenticeship 30 years ago .

And I also like fishing "metal" a lot , though many guys say , it's bound to lose against all the modern kinda lures nowadays:huh: !
