Swimbait fish

This is a 5lb4oz largemouth I caught yesterday at Lake Castaic in SoCal on my 7" QT slow sink.

I was lucky, there was a man and his daughter trout fishing nearby, and he took my picture. :worship:

I'd like to say it's due to my great skill, but we all know dumb luck has a lot to do with it.

Dieter,

The bass are about to move up onto the beds bigtime here. The next full moon is Thursday, and all the big fish caught at the tournaments, and my fish, too, are full of eggs.

It's a great time to be fishing.

But, with our drought, the water levels are lower, so there isn't a lot of cover for the bass fry to hide in, and that means we'll have a poor recruitment (survival rate) from this spawn. That means, in another couple of years, the fishing will be poor, as this year's class of fish move up into the 1lb+ range.

Not much we can do about that. We actually tried to get the Lake to let us put in some brush piles, but, because it's a State/County/City run lake, there are too many levels of bureaucracy to ever get anything done.
