The Trio

Here's a group of crank baits made from cedar. I modeled them after some Rapalas that I like only they were a little small. These are 7/8's wide x 6" long. The action is a wide wobble with the blue and white bait running about 4'-6' deep and the magenta running 6-8' deep.

The white/iridescent bait glows in the dark and has a lot of texture to the sides. This one still needs a little paint touch-up and one more coat of etex.

I just finished a batch of jumbo 8 inch baits waiting for paint in this same style that I'm hoping to have done for the opener.

Thanks for looking.

Very nice Bob, great colours and finish, you may soon have Rapala ringing. I would be interested to know how the glow in the dark paint works and what brand is it??pete

Thanks for the words guys.

Jacob,

Vince, a.k.a. fatfingers has helped me out from the very beginning before I actually tried to build a bait and has been an a great influence not only in how to build a bait but also in the painting part of the world. Even being compared is a compliment I'll humbly take. Thanks.

diema,

The rapala I based these baits on, loosely I might add is the Shad Rap. I've simplified the head area and towards the tail mine run a little thicker. If you see the shad rap you'll notice the resemblance.

Pete,

I used a tape, specifically WitchCraft glow tape for the sides. I cut and stuck it down and then feathered in a glaze so the edges were seamless then shot a white top layer just over the glaze. The sides are the part that glow. Even without the glow I really like the texture and how it grabs the light. It was a lengthy process but I'm pleased with the results and it glows quite bright. My kids keep taking this bait and running into the dark with it. That will end as soon as I put the hooks on. One way or another they'll learn. :oooh::lol::whistle:
