3-D eyes

Just thought I would share something I have been working on. I have been trying to get better eyes on my lures. So I got a hole punch, some hologram tape, black paint, and some "realistic water"; the stuff they use for fake water on model railroad track setups.

I just started punching out some holo tape and putting a black dot in the center. Then, i would let that dry and put a decent sized drop of the realistic water on the punch out. It took a pretty big drop, and it looks to big when ya put it on, but it shrinks a little when dry. The edge of the punch out holds the drop there to dry (surface tension?) I thought they came out decent, but I have to work on the pupil a little better. I also used some really thin plastic and painted it with a gold paint, and some pearls, and did the same thing as the holo tape.

Indeed, the eyes you make look very cool.

I tried making the eyes the same way, using epoxy, or plastic dissolved in acetone, but the results are not satisfactory to me.

Can you explain what "realistic water" is? What is it made of? A brand name would not help me much, since I live on the other side of planet Earth. But maybe some links where I could read the composition of the material?

It has a consistency of elmers glue. Which I think helps it keep its bubble shape on top of the punch out. You need a pretty good size drop of it on the punch out if you want a bigger profile of the eye. When dry, it does stay somewhat soft, but nothing that squishy. I have just clear coated over some in my gallery and it does just fine under envirotex. Here is the link to the stuff.http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/woo/wooc1211.htm.

I cant find anything that says what it is though. Any place that does model railroad scenes will have it.
