Gee, Jacob ,..... this one turned out to perfection:yes: !

You've said , that you didn't have any props , .......your homemades look so neat , that I've first thought , that you used an original one as a template:yes: !

What material are they , ....aluminium ?

And did you set their pitch to be counter-rotating(would let the lure swim upright at any speed , not lay on its side) ?

Also the painting turned out very nice , just like a topping shad !

No I dont think I did set the props counter rotating, that could easily be fixed though. I made the props out of copper so I just have to bend them. I just have to bend the them so the rear one bends to the inside right? Well I did some bathtub test and it seems that there is enough ballast weight so the lure doesnt go on its side to bad. I will do some bending though to see what happens tho:yes:. And then for the blade design I just did some searching on the web and I went to Hagens and they had actaull size pictures of prop blades so I used one of those as a stencil. I did make some myself but didnt like how they turned out so I just used the ones from the template, they give the lure a lil bit better look lol.

lol hopefully it will get me some wipers this fall when they start to feed on the shad on the surface. That is so much fun catching those fish with topwater, they just explode on the lure! lol then most the time they miss so you try not to get to happy and jerk the lure from them:lol:. I am gonna make some more of these in chartuse, the bass really seem to like that color a lot at my lake, ill let ya know what I get with em tho!

Now I see , why I was so familiar with your prop's shape , you've made a template after catalog pictures !

If I understood right about "bending to the inside" to achieve the prop running into opposite directions , .......this is wrong !

You only have to alter the angle of one prop's two blades in relation to the lenghtwise shaft , on which both props are spinning on .

A bit difficult to explain from a distance:? :

Imagine we are looking at your lure right down the nose tip from direction of the attached fishing line , both props sit like on this picture !

If now the upper front prop blade's right edge points forward and its left edge backward to make up for a little angle offset the straight 90

Hey Dieter,

I think I got what you said, I messed with the props for about an hour today in the bathtub just turning them different ways. Well I got the blades to spin freely now and the lure goes pretty darn straight. On the next one ill do some different types of blades, and ill had some more ballast weight also.

On the nest one of these tho I think i will make it with a cupped face and a prop only on the back. The reason for this is just when I was doing testing I noticed that over half the time the rear prop had trouble spinning. I dont know if this is cause of the prop hitting the hook or because of it just being in the back and not getting water but just air bubbles from the first prop.

I really like these lures, they look cool in the water lol. I will experiment some more with them and it I get a good one ill share it with you guys on here.

Many muskie guys utilize a piece of shrink tube over rear hook hanger eye , splitring and hook eye to prevent the hook from interfering the prop's spin , also to achieve better hook-ups , as the hook points stand well away from the prop blades tips .

This turned out great. I like the subtle color palette and the eyes you chose. You did a fine job on those props also.

Very nice that you were able to make your own props! And if you experiment making any more baits don't worry if the bait rolls to the side, especitally if you add any flash or flake to the finish. The idea behind Crippled Killer lures is the fish is injured and thus the paint jobs from the factory come with hooks oriented such that you see the side of the 'fish'. Also I have experimented with counter rotating props and haven't noticed a big difference in behaviour and no difference in catch ratio, Also if once you put hooks on the bait and it sits a bit tail down, don't worry about that too much, when you pull the bait forward it should tend to level out.

Bottom line is if the props spin well and create the splash you want then you'll likely be happy with the results. And if one or both of them spins when you just barely move the bait, that will help when you are finessing the bait, to create some flash.

Thanks also lol, I am slowly starting to figure out how to paint a lil better. On this one I did my process of the paintjob backwards:eek:. I did my kill spot and the eye shadowing once I got my sealer white on. I then did the scales and the back. I really like effect that it gives the bait. I just have to figure out the pectoral fins and head details and I think ill have some decent looking lures lol. Then for my eyes they are just some transparent eyes I think, they give a really cool look to the lure.

Lake testing

Well I went to the lake yesterday evening just to go toss the guy out there and see how it swims. Well the first thing I noticed is that the blades do counter rotate:lolhuh:, alls I did was just i just gave each blade some pitch. Also another thing is that the lure barely sits on its side when doing a fast retrieve. I think this is just because of all the lead I put in the lure:teef:. Didnt expect to get anything since its 4th of July weekend and there were people fishing everywhere but I slowed down the retieve and got as slow as the lure could work and I actaully got a lil bass on it:lol:. Im gonna make another one with just a rear prop and in chartuse, the bass here seem to like that color. Cant wait to fall though cause thats when the wipers come out to play, so if I get any wipers on it ill post a pic in the trophy gallery.
