"Scorpion" spoons

These look great Dieter! I agree with not painting them, the fish would prolly strip all the paint off them on the first outing8O

how this spoon is working ?? is working only at retrieve or it balance when falling in the water and stops ?? suppose you use them in deep waters !

Really impressive work. I envy you, because I have never tried to make a spoon. I have made only in line spinners, which brought me many fish in the past, but a spoon is more difficult to make, I think. I am sure these lures will catch pikes for you.

To look at the lure action check the video link in the thread mentioned in my describtion .

They have an attractive action on retrieve , ...on the drop they just fall back straight tail down 45

maibe I have another ideea to make this lure balance in water on stops or at the moment of casting it !

from my side the lure is great on retrieving, but do not think so is working on stops! because of that suppose you will loose lot of pikes that can strike in the time lure is touching the water and balance for few seconds in the water; this is an important strike moment and my advice is to make to entire lure concave including the scorpion tail ; you should block the segments of the tails to move up - in the current position are blocked bellow;

in this way you can tghrow the lure, let it to sink and balance, then retrieve, then again stop and balance when falling, and so on !

I see point in what you are saying and I can figure out , what you mean .

You suggest to have the tail segments cupped and have their play against one another limited to only one direction , thus to virtually act as an extension of the front section's cupping .

Undoubtely it could achieve the action on the drop , that you have described , this way .

But also I am certain , that it would loose it's action on retrieve , .......at first due to the limited play and second due to the increased cupping of all of the sections in total , I guess , that it would turn on its back and flutter up'n down only(the first , deeply cupped version in the video moves like that shortly before turning around on the platform as speeding up the pace) .

I have learnt this during my spoon making , .........too much cupping lets a spoon turn over and flutter only , .....not wiggle anymore .

Also I think , that strikes on a dropping lure are a bit overrated in literature , at least to me they have occured on very , very few occassions .

To maintain working depth , I always let my spoons pause and fall back a bit , and many of them do flutter attractively on a drop , but usually I don't have them struck , before I take up the retrieve again .

Also do this with weight-forward spinners , don't remember to have had any strikes on the drop .

Honestly I am not a spoon maker, but used lot of fishing spoons in my life, so hopefully you are not offended of my small reccomendation !
