7" Perch Glider

Yake Bait
 Share

7" maple plug with a foil base. Thanks again to Tigger for his excellent foiling tutorial on foiling! I used the Wisconsin DNR website to print out a profile of a perch. A link to their database:

Weight is placed just behind the front hook eye and it is placed relatively low on the body. Bouyancy is slightly negative with a slow sink rate. Haven't seen it in the water since the paint and final epoxy coat which may increase the sink rate slightly. Action is a wide side to side swing with little to no belly roll (due to low weight placement). It will also swim back and forth on a straight retrieve.

Excellent work Pete! You're getting really good. I just checked some of your earlier gallery work and your progress is scary. This one is toeing that "muskie bait vs art" line. I would be afraid to cast this for fear of banging it on a submerged boulder or worse, getting messed up by a little pike.

Going Muskie'ing this weekend down here on the Madison Chain! Can't wait.

Thanks waterlogged. As I'm sure you would agree, nothing looks better on a musky bait than teeth marks and hook rash so this one is gonna get it's share of use. Good luck on the musky opener. 13 more days for me and I am counting them down. In the mean time I'm trying to finish a few more small spring type baits to use on the first outing. Just finished a pair of perch Crane 305 imitations and am currently working on a 6" crappie glide bait.
