Poplar, with a sort of a bugle opening.White pearl belly Red sunburst detail for the gill area of the belly. Pearl flourescent red over yellow irridescent sides. Weight: 5/8 ounce without hooks

Thanks, SCT. First I made the general shape on the lathe. Next I cut the head at a slight angle (note that the front is not perpindicular to the center line of the bait...in other words, the top of the mouth extends out farther than the bottom of the mouth)

To actually shape the mouth, I used a forstner bit and drilled a 1/2 inch hole straight into the mouth, and then tapered the hole back to the outside rim of the mouth with a rotary tool and a bullet-shaped sanding stone.
