bluegill swimbait

There were a lot of firsts with this bait...pretty much everything considering it was my first hard bait. I am not particuarly satisfied with the paint job, but I guess it is Ok. The paints used were Apple Barrel with a little bit of blue and green highlite powder (for pouring soft plastics) used in the top coat. Overall dimensions are 7"X4"X3/4". One thing about it, it swims great. Comments and suggestions welcome. Thanks.

I think it's pretty cool looking, I like the joints. I didn't like my first paint job either but hey, you just keep building them and let them evolve over time.

I'm betting that you'll like that second one better when it's finished.

Show us a pic when it's done.

The top color is excellent, could be blended in with some browns and purples down the sides into some vertical bars maybe using the joints for that...definitely needs more eye detail with a larger 3-d type eye slightly inset as opposed to being just stuck on. A bluegill type gill flap would be a nice touch also. Looks like some great work on the hinge joints and body carve!

nice job. my first ones didn't look nearly that good.keep at it, every progressive lure will improve. if it swims great thats the whole idea. i've scraped ones that looked good but didn't swim worth a darn. now i test them before doing all the finish work.

I think this looks great

I am also trying to build my first gill

I am splitting the wood when I try to drill into it to put balast in

Any tips?

It is probable due to the fact i am using only hand tools
