littleriver 81 Posted February 3, 2012 Report Share Bob Those are some great looking baits! I would be interested in knowing the result of your test. Vic Quote Link to comment
RayburnGuy 1,383 Posted February 3, 2012 Report Share Nice looking baits you made Bob. From your description you had to cut the lips slots. Not an easy job on a lure that's already been contoured. Quote Link to comment

woodenfeather 5 Posted February 3, 2012 Report Share Those look awesome! I was experimenting with some square bill protos recently, 'till my wife wanted to know why I had a tree branch and two bricks submerged in our bath tub. I hope mine turn out as nice as yours. Quote Link to comment
surfk9 41 Posted February 4, 2012 Report Share If you don't mind me asking....what is your "trick" (or should I say skill) in cutting the lip slots? I would probably be pulling hair and using some choice four letter words!!! Quote Link to comment
BobP 1,380 Posted February 4, 2012 Report Share Lip slots are why I usually don't buy pre-formed balsa bodies! I use a 4" strip of flexible plastic, wrap it around the nose of the bait. When the ends of the strip match up exactly when pinched together on the back of the lure, I mark the slot. It's a little fiddly to do but it seems to work pretty well. Anyone who has a better way, PLEASE TELL ME! (as long as it doesn't involve a molded jig to hold the baits). I cut the slot by hand with the blade from a jig saw. Quote Link to comment
