  1. Thought this might be a neat way to share little ideas that make big difference in results. Many are too small for full blown tutorials. just little bits of info that make the job easier. For starters, i would like to share an idea that came to me in a very solemn place during one of my many moments of need during my lure building odyssey. As usual, I was down to the finishing touches of any good crank, eyes and kill spot. Do one side; then comes the drama of trying to match the other side. I look flip check mark . Look again and paint . Guess what; it is off. Not much but enough that it really irks your chain. After months of this torment, during a moment of inspiration the idea of using a jig came to me. i have tried several things but by far the best one i have found is this simple tool. I have several marks along the edge. Slide your bait inside and align jig with spine of bait. I use which ever mark is closest to where i want my eye or dot and mark the spot on the lure with a pencil. Then paint with confidence knowing all will be well when done with your masterpiece. It will take some time to get proficient with your new tool but with time and practice you too can master this new skill. Littleriver

  2. I don't know if I would recommend a certain hook size for a certain jig size. I have seen guys want 6/0 hooks on a 1/4 oz jig and vice-versa. So this is what I can tell you that fits in the Brush Jig mold and an Owner 5304 hook. 1/4 oz size = 2/0 just barely(hook eye on the hook too small in diameter) , 3/0 and 4/0 fine 3/8 oz size = 3/0 and 4/0 fine 1/2 oz size = 3/0 and 4/0 fine 5/8 oz size = 5/0 fine 3/4 oz size = 5/0 fine 1 oz size = 5/0 fine My hook eye pin on my Brush jig mold may be a little worn from use so these hooks may fit my mold a little easier. I couldn't tell you how they fit in a brand new mold.

  4. An oven works fine for multicolor baits, but a heat gun is easier than shuffling the baits in and out of the oven. When I use an oven for this, I heat the lures to the recommended temp to do the base coat and then turn the temp down to the recommended "curing temp" and put the lures back in the oven to heat them to do the additional colors. You will probably have to shuffle them in and out several times to get all the colors on that you want, and sometimes more than once for just one of the secondary colors if the lure gets cool enough that the powder doesn't stick. Hope this makes sense. Good luck. Dan
