  1. Welcome to TU. Just from reading the way you worded your post I think you are on the right track. It's best if you can think outside the box and use whatever you can. lots of times I'll go and "cruise" the dollar store looking at almost everything in the store. You would be surprised how many ideas I get from that place looking at shapes and details of the objects. You can use the grip portion of the exacto knives to creat a type of scale pattern. I've used evreything from paintbrush handles to the caps off of hair shampoo. Just keep your mind open when you go; let the shapes talk to you. Good luck.

  3. Not so far, but it will cause solvent based sharpie colors to run, so I put a coat of clear Createx over them before I dip.

  4. Geez. Could you imagine the tooling $?! Wonder if the guy made any prototypes and field tested them. That alone would be a feat. "Aint nobody got time fo dat"--Sweet Brown.

  5. Many others besides you have learned this lesson, there are no secrets in china, as soon as you submit your design they start marketing it to bigger names with more money. I know a gentleman that was actually having a product produced in china and all of the sudden he was told that they could no longer produce the bait, a few months later one of the big companies came out with the exact same bait, I mean it was exactly the same bait and guess what it said on the bag, you got it, "made in china". That is the reason soft plastics are slowly coming back to the U.S., there is no honesty and you get poor quality and its almost impossible to send them back, when it comes to soft plastics there is something to be said for made in America.

  6. I bought a few Megabass Vision 110 knockoffs with chrome finish awhile back. The price on the real 110's is crazy! I know because I've bought a few. When I float tested the KO's with trebles before painting, I found that they would not suspend head-down like the real thing. I fixed that by putting some lead tape in front of the front treble before painting them. Now they LOOK exactly like $25 Ito Vision 110's and they suspend correctly... but do they really have exactly the same action as a real 110? Dunno but I sort of doubt it. Maybe the KO's will be great jerkbaits in their own right, I haven't fished one enough yet to know. But based on my experience with various KO's, I'm not betting the ranch on it. That's not to say that there are not some really good KO's 'out there'. But if your expectation is that the KO will be just like the original, you're not being realistic.
