  1. I thought about selling lures because I was making too many to fish or give away. Then I thought about it. If your labor is worth money, how much should you charge? The rate you were making before your retired? If so, my lure would be priced at $200+ each! I decided I'd rather just give them away rather than devalue my labor by selling them for a price anyone might actually want to pay.

  2. The words "too many" and "lures" used in the same sentence? Excuse me?

  3. If only there was a show about lure hoarders...that would answer your question of how much is too much. I feel this would actually cause more fisherman to go out and buy more because they realize "hey I don't own one of those!" good way to go in debt.

  4. If i stopped collecting fishing lures i would just go back to drinking and chasing women....And collecting lures is by far cheaper.

  5. I use Apple Barrel and Folk Art paints, which aren't specifically designed for air brushes. From what I've learned here, that means there may be larger pigment particles, which clog the small passages in an air brush. Because I'm lazy, and only paint for myself and friends, I thin those paints with Auto Aire 4011 reducer until they are like skim milk before I use them. When I do get a clog, I usually just backflush the paint back into the cup a little to clear it. If that doesn't work, I pull the needle back a little to make more room for the paint to pass. It's not scientific, but it works most of the time. If I were going to screen the paint, I would thin it first, because it comes out of the plastic bottle way too thick to use anyway.

  7. Was talking with my neighbor and he does concrete staining. He asked how the lure building was going and we got to talking about it. I was discussing the dn and the storage issue i was having. He said he uses a sealer on his stain and said i could try it out. I asked him if he used it on his water based color stain and he said yes. So he brought me a sample. It smells just as bad as dn and appears to be a little thinner. I had a lure i had just finished painting with createx paints. I did the final heat set and dipped it, hung to dry. I came back in a couple hours and to my suprise it was already dry enough to touch. It came out great. I went ahead and put a second coat on. I asked him if it gels and he says no that he doesnt have a issue with storage. This stuff is called xylene (SP). It dried clear and looks great. He said it has a uv inhibitor in it since it is used on driveways out in the sun. So im thinking this might be a potential topcoat, sealer. I will post back on the final findings on it. I have three lures i dipped in it. John
