  2. I spent hours researching and trying various battery options. They will work... I used one but cant recall the name - gotta keep the amount of plastic reasonable as they don't have a ton of torque (or bolt onto the pot super securely) - I never really tried to use the stirring pot to heat plastisol from scratch through the gel phase... I microwaved batches and transferred to insure I didn't overload the motor - notably as batteries get a little weaker. You'll need to make a metal paddle of some sort regardless. In the end after screwing around and spending cash - I went and bought a used Dayton motor and some aluminum sheets off Ebay and just made a stirring unit similar to what are sold online. J.

  3. I just use a paper towel as I go, wiping excess oil each go round. I always clean my molds prior to their use and when I'm finished I hit them with a silicon spray for storage. I find that when I get them back out the silicon spray has pooled and brings residual colors out from the tiny crevasses in the aluminum molds.

  4. I have been using HazardDiscs from Golden Grub High-temp glitter I found through Ebay. Have made hundreds of lures this year and this glitter has not folded, flashed, smoked or bled due to the heat. The glitter shines very well and I'm very pleased with their product and will continue to purchase from them. Even after multiple heat ups, mixes and random plastic batches the glitter still looks GREAT!.

  5. Well thank you all for the help. Was able to get some casted, painted, and tested. They do catch fish, as intended!

  6. I think most of the people using Devon are doing the 1:1 Volume , not weight. You can pretty much be spot on when squeezing two equal amounts into a mixing cup. Mike

  7. Cooling the epoxy will extend pot life. Spreading it out a little keeps it from heating up as much as it goes off. Also having it something that will act as a heat sink will help as well. Mixing in the bottom of an upside down can of beer or soda works well. No corners and the aluminum acts as a heat sink.

  8. Hi JG, did you make these using the injector mold method? I think I can see the "step" that those molds have in them.

  11. No injections at all , no burnt plastic, and definitely not luck. I make them by the thousands, can’t be luck everytime.

  12. I've been working on a "HD series" and that's basically how I do it. I shoot a laminate tube and just dip the tails before cutting. Mine dipping plastic is maybe a little hotter than usual and I don't have any issues.
