  1. After experimenting with other woods I mostly use Tupelo and occasionally use poplar. To me they are just easier to work with. But if you not going to carve too many details basswood Tupelo and PVC would be good for floating baits, whereas poplar and other hardwoods would be better for sinking baits. Hardwoods are good for heavy floating baits, I made a spook out of mahogany and it didn’t take much wait to balance it.

  2. Easy man just looking for alternatives to KBS. And I did read the instructions. Engineering Angler (You Tuber) said this so KBS might not be the best option for clear coating fine metals. I would call him a reliable source. “Yes...Most clear coats including two part resins will react with the silver and start the oxidation. There are only a few clear coats that will protect the silver. If you visit some websites that specialize in silver you can find some protective coatings.”

  3. I was working with high school fishing team kids making baits. I ordered an extra 5 gallons of Calhoun’s medium plastisol. Before we got into it those kids graduated and the coach quit. I don’t have the contact anymore so I have more than a lifetime supply. I don’t know how to ship it so I’m hoping someone within driving distance of Springfield MO needs some. If any of are interested let me know and we’ll see if we can work something out.

  4. I'm not a hard bait guy in any way, but I'd sure like to know this as well. I see all these different woods and wonder what the difference is? Very confusing to me!

  5. My suggestion would be to design in 'bolt on' backing plates with recessed bolt heads. This will help keep the shape of the mold halves, and simplify assembly with permanently fixed backing plates. Make the printed halves identical, so you can print extra halves if problems arise. I have to make more of an effort to source a 3D printer here in Indonesia. I have been lazy. I will be printing hard-baits rather than molding. This gives me the opportunity to improve the shape beyond 'mold-able', and with the added benefit of making my printed lures difficult to copy. Dave
