  1. Basscat, X-Acto knife handles work great. Open the jaws, insert the hook hanger, and tighten it down. Just make sure that get the ones with the metal jaws, not the cheap plastic ones. Also, if you're using screw eyes for your hook hangers, you can make some lure holders/painting wands by epoxying a screw eye to a piece of 1/4-inch dowel. Gene
  2. Pete, I'm trying to interpret your post. After thinking about it for a while, I think that I have finally figured out the point. Is this what you are talking about? Gene
  3. A book?!?!? I hope it's has lots of pictures! Thanks. I'll look forward to getting it. Gene
  4. Tierce12, I'll be coming down I-65 and crossing Hwy 72 sometime in the morning. If you would like to meet me somewhere around there, I'll bring the wood. Gene
  5. Hey Pete, Nice looking boat but I have to agree.... It's time to replace the "custom crocs", too. Gene
  6. Thanks Boomah21 for your "Thank you". Gene
  7. Tierce12, Where are you located in Alabama? I'm headed down to the Florence area this weekend. If you are close, I can bring you some balsa, pawlownia, and basswood for you to try. Free of charge! Gene
  8. Allen, You get to see the secret handshake at the official TU gathering in Clinton, Mo. Gene

  14. On July 8th, I found a great price (or so I thought) on a new Nikon S600 from 86th Street Photo & Video online. The price was listed on their website for $75-$100 less than the average retail price offered from other online companies. So, I ordered the camera. Shortly thereafter I received an e-mail confirming my order with a note stating:
  15. Bruce, Let me add my "Happy Birthday to you", too.

    YaHOO Snow

Pete! Snow in July!? You must have hit your head harder than I thought when you were at my house. Just joking. I do realize it's winter in Australia now but you just bought a boat. Are you going to cut a hole in the floor of it when you take it ice fishing? Gene

Here's my "home away from home". Pete caught it on a good day. I also cleaned it up for these pictures. I wouldn't want the whole world to see my clutter. Size - 14 x 20 with an 8 x 8 lumber room. Gene
  20. In another thread Vodkaman made an interesting post that I thought might be of importance to all of our members, especially the new ones. He stated in part: "Personally, when I joined, I was overwhelmed by the expertise and knowledge of the members. Recognising how basic my questions were that I wanted to ask, I searched rather than asking. I think in hind sight, I should have asked, as searching for the answers was difficult because I did not know the terminology, or special words to search for." I feel as though if we all posted a few "buzz words", their meaning, and the relationship with which type of baits that it could go a long way in reducing some of the repetative questions that are being asked. I mean, if you don't know what to look for, how do you perform an effective search? For example: Hard Baits Bib or Lip - A piece of shaped "plastic" or metal that is attached to the front or rear of a lure that imparts the action to that lure. Clearcoat - A final finish that protects the paint on a lure. D2T - Devcon 2-Ton - An epoxy used as a clearcoat. Soft Baits POP - Plaster of Paris I hope that you get the idea. Please feel free to post your own. Gene
  21. I have been a member of TU since its birth. I have made a lot of new friends here; some that I have even had the pleasure of meeting in person. I have learned an untold amount of information. I don't post often but you can believe that I am usually here at least once a day unless I'm out of town or busy. I, myself, find it hard to believe that anyone here wouldn't be willing to pay to keep this site running. How many fishing magazines do you subscribe to? How many "cold ones" did you have today? What is it? 1 pack or 2 packs of cigarettes a day? What about that brand new $200 rod or reel that you just had to have? My point is: we all buy things that we don't need. We just buy them for our personal satisfaction. But these things are disposable. Stop and think about how much knowledge you have gained from TU. This knowledge is yours forever! This knowledge can be (and has been for many of you) a money maker. I've seen the prices that some of you charge for your crankbaits. $25 or more. It just seems to me that for all of that knowledge that you have gained that you should be willing to give something back to the site. Even if it is $60 a year, I would consider that a bargain. Gene
  22. Mark, I don't remember any conversation about barrell weights. So, I don't believe it was me. Sorry. The Natural, Thanks for all of the compliments. The cotter pins have worked great fo me, too. Jim, The following is a description of the pins that I use. I bought mine from McMaster-Carr. But, there are others that sell them. Part Number: 98401A417 Price - $2.29 per Pack of 100 Material Type - Stainless Steel Finish - Plain Stainless Steel Type - 18-8 Stainless Steel Diameter - 1/16" Overall Length - 1" Gene
  23. I shorten them by folding the legs back on themselves. Then drill the hole large enough to accomodate the extra diameter. The fold will never allow the cotter pin to pull out. BTW, I also use them to make the line tie in the lip. Gene
  24. Some of us use stainless steel cotter pins. Gene
