  1. Well, if I were going to be making wood baits, I would want a GOOD knife with a sharp edge and some stones and a strop to keep it sharp. A bandsaw would be great if you plan on making several baits. And then, a 1x30 belt sander. Hmmmm... let's see... Powermatic 24-inch planer, surface sander, Powermatic 10-in. table saw, jointer,.... I'm sorry, I was just looking at my new Woodcraft catalog and wandered off. Like I said above: bandsaw, knife, sander. Gene
  2. What type of lures do you plan to carve? Musky & pike lure makers prefer hardwoods such as maple, oak, poplar, etc. Bass lure makers tend to lean more towards basswood, balsa, and paulownia.
  3. And keep the shop door closed at night while clearcoating. The light has a strange way of attracting bugs that just can't seem to avoid all that shiny clearcoat. Gene
  4. Here are a couple of lures done with plain white printer paper.
  5. Deb and Nathan. Kinda scary, ain't it? The one on the right, that is. Actually they're great people.
  6. Pete, Looks kinda like Nathan's place...without the plane and the sheep though. But he does have Zoe. See you soon!
  7. WARNING LURE MAKING POX HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS TO ADULT MALES (MAY BE CONTRACTED BY SOME ADULT FEMALES) SYMPTOMS
  8. I didn't mean to mis-lead anyone but I failed to mention that the pond pictured does not belong to Nathan. It is just a short ways away from his house. We do have permission to fish it though. He does have a pond but it is more like Dave described. Gene
  9. Guys, I'll bring some extra rods and reels with me for anyone that needs one. I'm sure that between all of us no one will have to "spectate". So, save your space/weight in your baggage for other things. As far as the boots go, the main concern will be getting your feet wet from walking in the mud around the pond. The banks are pretty clear but may be muddy in some places. I have attached an arial photo of the pond. Gene
  10. Phil, Pete, Vodkaman, Let us know your preference for fishing tackle, i.e. casting, spinning, spincast, etc. and what lb. test line you want. We will try to make sure that you have something to fish with. Besides, fishin' ain't no spectator sport. Phil, How about some size 11 boots with the toes stuffed? Gene
  11. Bruce, The ponds are on private property so we don't buy a fishing permit. The ponds have a nice stock of largemouth bass and some 2-pound crappie in them along with some assorted sunfish. Vodkaman and the others that are flying in, I understand that you will be travelling light. Please let the rest of us know what you need in the way of tackle, boots, jackets, etc. and we will make sure that you have what you need. However, you're on your own when it comes to the women and booze. Oh, BTW, Clinton is in a dry county! No, just kidding. And, since Coley has decided to show up, Zoe is off limits, too. Gene
  12. Hey Coley, you better look at the tag in your shirt again! And this time...........WITH your glasses on!
  13. Glad to hear it Coley! Nathan told Zoe. He said she is already rolling in the dirt making herself pretty for you.
  14. I'm looking forward to finally meeting you Jerry. See you soon. Gene
  15. Has anyone tried any concrete or driveway sealers?
  16. Mrs. Redg8r, I, too, would like to thank you for all you do and I'm sorry that you won't be joining us. It's taken a while to get Jerry to join us so maybe you won't be too far behind. BTW, make ours 1-xl & 1-lg. Thanks. Gene
  17. Thanks for the personal invitation, Deb! I thought that I was going to just drop Linda & Charlie off and return to the hotel for the duration. Gene
  18. Perhaps we could get Jerry to set up another section in the custom baits area just for upcoming events. That way we might get more people from TU to attend the events. Gene
  19. Swede, I do believe Erik is running it. On the home page, in the first paragraph, this is the last sentence: "You can view them at this link! Thanks!- Erik" Gene
  20. I was doing some surfing this evening and stumbled across the new Tacklemaking.com website. For those of you who don't know, Tacklemaking was the "original" forum where many of us old timers first met. The new website has a lot of information but no forum. It looks as though the information that is there has been taken from the posts from the old forum. Tacklemaking's inception was just after 9-11 and lasted about two years. When it went down Jerry (Redg8r) started TU and a legend was created! We've been here ever since. Thanks Jerry for providing us a place to exchange information and make new friends. BTW, if anyone is interested, the web address for TM is: http://www.tacklemaking.com/default.php?pageID=1 Gene
  21. Thanks Dean! And howdy to you, too.

Gene
  23. Thanks Redg8r for the credit but the photo finish in my original post used a picture printed on plain printer paper. Someone else (I'm sorry but I don't remember who) started using the decal. Gene
  24. Nathan, You know Linda & I will be there. Haven't missed one yet.
  25. Pete, I don't know the difference between an Austrailian wheel and an English wheel but I am interested in finding out. So, please reconsider showing us. As far as the lathe goes, I don't think that you will have any problems learning. I'll be more than happy to show you what little I know about a lathe. Gene
