Actually ,
They ran pretty good and I did catch a few fish on them..I just enjoy designing baits and moved on...What ever you choose to mount your blades on make sure it isn't too wide or too stiff. If it is it will cut down on your hooking percentage . Think the bass think it 's a small school of fish...Nate
Hey Dieter,
The book is a excellent book.I guess Buck was actually the grandfather of structure fishing. It's amazing how many pro's of today comment on learning from Buck Perry's book.I've never fished his spoons but I understand they are great for casting and trolling...Nathan
It can be done...I made a bait like that several years ago...I made a few and never went any further with them. When your block is still square choose the spot you want the blades to be located and drill a 1/16 hole through the block. Now shape and finish your bait as usual.I used small eye screws to mount a small swivel and a # 1 willow blade too( blade size will be determined by the bait size) the eye screws on each side of the bait.I tried other methods for mounting the blades but this was the easiest and worked best for me...Nathan
Don,
Definatley works of art..and if your only charging 20.00..a bargain too.We love seeing your work but pictures like this need to go in the photo gallery...Nathan
Tater,
Great point. When we were all together as a family when I was a kid my mom would always say "We are making a memory"....I don 't think there is anything better than that as a lure builder...helping someone "Make a memory"...Nathan
My first subscription was when I was in High School in the mid 70's..(yep..I was a long haired bass fishing freak!!.. Lol)...I let my subscription go then picked it up again in the mid to late 80's.I never became a life member.I don 't always have the time to read them through...Generally just a quick skim..But I always read a day on the lake article.
My favorite mag is probably in Fisherman.Their articles tend to be a bit more in depth And I do fish for multi species...I do hate the fact the mag is owned by Rapala...Nathan
Like Ben said.. Berkley did a ton of work like this. They said they had pinpointed what action made Bass strike the most and incorporated this action into their Frenzy crankbaits... Do they still make this crankbaits?...I don't think they ever really took off...But just the same..I find this kind of stuff very interesting.
Dr.Jones (Berkleys head researcher) Wrote a book several years ago called "Knowing Bass".It is a must read for any lure maker. He doesn't 't give away any Berkley secrets but points you in the right direction...Nathan
Thinman,
Never have but I've heard good things about it.I believe it is a two part epoxy type product.what makes the Eagle products interesting is they are a dip-able product....Nathan
We have a talented great group of people. On occasion we have some disagreements but everybody is generally respectful of others opinions. We are very passionate about our hobby here...Welcome to our Zoo Don......Nathan
Mark,
It will give you a flat, tuf, rubber feeling top coat.I'm using on a large leech type hard bait I'm getting ready to release ...and it is killer on jig heads. You just have to get use to a flat finish instead of glossy....Nathan
Thinman,
That sounds like the product A-Mac tried. It should be called Eagle Supreme. The other product they have is called Eagle Gloss coat. Both are concrete sealers and both are lacquer based.I tried the Eagle gloss coat and it did give a nice clear top coat but it wasn't the strongest by any means. The Eagle Supreme I believe is a better product and is similar to the Gst sealer bought at Menards...Nathan
What about clear Plastic Dip?.. It also comes in a spray on... It's definatley tough... I 'be used it on jig heads and sprayed it on some cranks...Nathan
I believe that is just spray on glitter...no paint in it at all.It works really well but depending on the type of paint you use, the carrier for the glitter may react with it..( you'll get a white haze when it dries)..If this happens re -spray the bait with a little more glitter(that will clear the haze) blow on the glitter to set it and immediately dip in in poly acrylic ..the poly will keep it from hazing over...Nathan
