Were you on TU at the time, or just sharing that you have been a victim of a possible hacking attempt? -

Thanks, that would be a false positive by your AV software. It's flagging our in-house advertising system. I understand this false positive, because our ad system software is very popular & has the ability to serve ads from other ad agencies like "Commission junction" or "tribal fusion", etc. These types of ad agencies are known to serve ads that come from advertisers with questionable code attached. We do NOT use affiliate programs in our ad server, the banners you see on this site are sold directly by us & we control the integrity of the link code, AKA "In-house" ads. However your AV software recognizes our software & flags it (even though we use it properly) Your best solution is to either block (which we dont recommend, our advertisers help pay the bills) or whitelist TU in your AV software. We fully control our ads & dont allow any shady advertising, including pop-ups, pop-unders, or affiliate programs in the ad server. Thanks for the info. -

Alright, before it gets misconstrued, please be a little more specific. Are you claiming that your computer was attacked twice by the TU server? And what do you mean by "I usually just get out asap"? Do you simply leave the site, or shut down your machine? I dont mean to come off rude, but I dont take ANY of these issues lightly & would like to investigate them so please be more specific or come with some form of documentation, scan report, log, something. I'm fully confident that these issues are either false positives from new or upgraded AV software, or simply lack of user understanding of the AV software. Regardless, I would like some information from those of you who are making claims. I can't help without some kind of concrete information. & before it happens, please do NOT post any scan reports or private information in the forum, send them directly to me: tu@tackleunderground.com -

Thanks for the information, but I don't understand. Phone numbers? How does your computer store your phone numbers? are you on dialup? TU does not collect, nor require a phone number to join. Our partners at Hagen's require a phone number in exchange for their catalog, other than that we do not collect phone numbers. If you don't mind, please run the scan again & copy me the information to tu@tackleunderground.com Thanks again. -
Use of the PM system is now a subscription benefit. This was announced in 2 threads in weeks leading up to the change & posted in the sitewide notice that ran the last week of July. We encouraged everyone to download their PM's before the deadline. Existing PM messages have not yet been purged, so any new subscribers will have their old messages available for now.

Is there a security issue with someone from TU hacking my PC?

Hi Ron, Yes, please take note of any further warnings & pass it along directly to me. There is an optional user setting to have TU issue a "popup" notification that you have a new private message, that may or may not be what McAfee is flagging. That is the only popup TU issues other than the automated chatroom login. Regardless, I would like to see any information you could provide. All the best. -

Hi Ron, Please send an email with any information given by McAfee, pertaining to TU. Email to tu@tackleunderground.com. McAfee checks TU daily for suspicious behavior & they give us a clean bill of health, you can check here for yourself: tackleunderground.com | Web Safety Ratings from McAfee SiteAdvisor -
Hey, Welcome to the club, its mishaps like these that increase your knowledge. Some failures spark a new process or ideas & actually become fruitful. My experience was that the solvent didnt ruin the integrity of the bait, it simply soaked in & "hazed" the plastic. I'll still fish mine, shoot think of it as an etching compound. If the bait is a "must fix" you might have some success buffing it back to a reasonable gloss. I have some that were dipped a little TOO long & actually developed a textured/wrinkled skin similar to the finish on a "Rhino lining". I like the idea of hiding the lip somewhat with added claws, another idea would be to paint the exposed lip with a transparent neon, those are somewhat popular. but like I said, unless you let it soak TOO long, it's still fish-able. If I cant mechanically remove a finish, I go with mineral spirits/paint thinner. If the paint isnt lacquer based, it should wrinkle up & come off relatively easily. Someone had a quote in here along the lines "those who dont learn from thier mistakes are doomed to repeat them", I think it was Albert Einstein, but very relevent, none the less.

Yup, could've told ya. but you didnt ask If the epoxy was properly cured, thats all that would've been left over time. Epoxy does have a decent ability to resist solvents once cured. I've taken the liberty of renaming your topic title from "Guess what?" to something a lil more descriptive. Hopefully it'll help someone else in the future, but hey, enjoy the newly frosted bait! I have a few myself

I'm not sure if they have changed their policy over the years or not, but they used to only allow a single sample or trial purchase per person. I got around it by buying a trail kit on their old shopping cart & when they recently switched over to a new cart system, all records were lost/incompatible, so I ordered another one. If they have indeed changed that policy, good on em, but I know that their distributors stock those same kits on the retail shelves for hobbyists.

I know that's confusing. I spoke with a smoothon rep who told me the gallon order (pictured above) totals 20.7 lbs. Which I'm guessing is 2 gallons. Liquid weight varies by the density of the liquid, so I can't venture a positive answer.

Same sentiment, I have samples that are years old & still check them on occasion. Other than hardener settling on the bottom, most are still usable. On that note, could you possibly have not shaken/stirred the product before using & now your left with nothing but hardener? Other than that, all I can figure is your closet temp is over 300 degrees Care to share the brand or where you bought it? you might get more replies if we knew who made it.

Hi Kk, If you own a Dremel, you know how versatile it is. The newer XP (?) model, seems more ergonomic, but it doesn't look like it would fit the standard router table Dremel offers, so I would stick with the Multipro model, it fits in the Dremel router table, or you could build your own. Ive done it in the field more than once when in a pinch. Agreed the available router bits made by dremel have a lot to be desired, straight flute, HSS, small diameter & dull quickly. One tip I can give is to check out the attachments available for the Rotozip. They make a better quality line of bits (more carbide) & the 1/8 inch shafts fit the Dremel collet. I would DEFINITELY, lower the Multipro speed to avoid a dangerous situation, as I'm sure Dremel wont recommend any other manufacturers accessories. A laminate or trim router can use small 1/4 shaft bits, but as you may have noticed, extra care needs to be taken to avoid possible injury. There's an old woodworkers trick to better protect yourself when using a roundover bit on small parts, but it's very hard to explain. I'll see if I can work up a pic, if I still have the jig in the shop. Never climb mill small parts (feeding the blank with the bit rotation, always feed opposite of the bit rotation), protect yourself, have a kill switch handy, turn off the cellphone & give the tool your undivided attention. All the best.

Ahh, I see, yeah the earlier link farther up the thread was a the "Club Membership" list to answer a request to see who has joined. You thought it was replacing the entire memberlist. Sorry for the confusion
-
There are links to members sites on the memberlist, unless there's a misconfiguration I'm not aware of. Check here for me: Tackleunderground - Members List Duly noted that the list isn't able to sort by users homepage but they are listed. A better solution that is visible to all site visitors is the Tacklemaker's Directory. inclusion is free for TU Club Members. Granted, it isn't vastly populated yet, but it's only been online for a week. Over time it will supersede the memberlist, as it's much more functional. Ability to save your favorite sites, site rating, site statistics & site popularity are standard features. The Forum Member list is only accessible to registered TU members, however, the Directory is accessible to all site visitors, no account needed. It was setup in this fashion as a vehicle to help drive visitors to your site.

A Mac, Let us know how it turns out for you. We played around with the commercial version at Nathan's during the Clinton Meet. Unless your intention is to carve 2 halves & join them together, you're gonna need a way to index the rotation of the master & blank. I've followed the copycarver site for many years now, it's a great setup for larger baits, gunstocks, decoys etc, but not sure if they have addressed the 360 indexing issue or not.

Hi All, We have a new TU Chat Room made possible by the support from our TU Club members. They have allowed us to release it to all registered members to try out for a limited time. The chat room currently has one main room for general tackle making discussion. It will soon have more rooms added to emulate the layout of the luremaking forums to help keep discussions loosely on topic. We are currently discussing various ways to utilize the chat rooms, possibly having topic related discussions scheduled for certain days/times, however the rooms will be open 24/7 for those visiting from the other side of the globe. The Chat rooms will not be actively moderated, but there is a chat log being kept that can be referenced if we get any complaints. Moderators & admins engaged in chat can only moderate while present, so if you witness abuse or inappropriate behavior, make note of the date & time so we can review the logs and act appropriately. All that said, jump in, trade tips, have fun. TU Chat Room

So for topwater, What are you lookin for? Luremaking.com gets their blanks from one of the only American injectors I know of that offers any significant selection. Most US injectors are contract based & don't catalog the work. They would want you to supply the mold/s. Your best bet would be looking overseas. I've talked with more than a few manufacturers & a lot is lost in translation. They have a hard time wrapping their head around why we don't want them assembled, painted & pre-packaged. Trying to get them unglued would probably be more of a task. Good luck, if you come across anyone & wanna share, let us know. All the best.
