I have never had that problem with Pro Cure. Make sure you are using oils and liquids rather than sauces and butters. Chris

Overall, I like Lure Craft's liquid colors better, but I prefer MF's powders. There are a few colors offered by MF that Lure Craft doesn't offer, like Amber Green, Crayfish, Brown Watermelon, etc. Most of them can be made with a combo of Lure Craft colors, but I'm too lazy, so I just buy those from MF.

Hey Guys, Thanks for the praise. It's greatly appreciated!! Craig..... that is without a doubt the first time I've been called the "Yoda of Hand-Pours" The "neon" effect started as a West Coast thing and kinda took off from there. I use various different colors, pearls, hi-lites, etc., depending on the bait. A good example is blue neon; electric blue, blue hi-lite, and a touch of black color. This is pretty much the standard for a neon color. There are some other western companies that I'm truly impressed with; The Drop Shot Store, SRPlastics, Western Hand-Pours........just to name a few. These guys all make baits that will melt your eyes when looking at them. Chris

I add my scent in the mixture, but I don't have the odor problem that I had with 3-G. I'm sold on the Pro Cure scent Chris

John, Is it the heat stabilizer you guys are smelling in the plastic? When I worked with 3-G, there was a fine line between burning the plastic and adding too much stabilizer. Garlic was the only scent that I could use to mask the odor; 2 drops per ounce about a minute before being ready to pour. You might try a touch of Lure Craft's garlic, then add your Kick N Bass after. The Pro Cure that I use is awesome, but I'm afraid it will cook out too. Chris

Hi Pop, MF's super soft formula is the best product on the market in my opinion......if you can afford the price. It's incredibly easy to work with and you seldom need to mix the stuff. Their 5-gallon containers come with a convenenient handle which makes it easy to tip the jugs. That's really all you need to do is shake the container once in awhile. As for the glitters, MF and Lure Craft are basically the same. As long as they are polyester coated, they won't burn. I haven't tried the ultra brite hologram, but I go through the regular holi. like crazy. Again, both companies are identical. It's a good idea to get different sizes; some .015, .035, and .062. Different size flakes in a bait can make all the difference in the world. I have never tried the string glitter and I can't stand working with the micro (.008) flake because the stuff is feather light and easily becomes airborn if you're not careful. Chris

Hey Guys, Just wanted to drop in and say thanks for all the kind words and prayers. For those of you who don't know, my oldest boy has Down Syndrome and there's been some complications lately, but he's a trooper and we feel confident that we'll get through everything just fine. He should be back fishin' again in no time. Thanks again fellas. You guys are great!! Chris

I looked in our yellow pages under "popcorn" and believe it or not, there were a few places that popped up; those companies who supply carnivals, fairs, etc. Fortunately, there is a supplier just a few miles from me, and I buy it by the case for around 25 bucks. I bought a case a year ago and have only used half now. Do some searches on popcorn, carnivals, fairs, food distributors, etc. and you should find someone who has it. Bruce from The Drop Shot Store had a very good recommendation last year. He told me to check with your local grocery store (Albertson's, Save Mart, etc.). They only sell in small sizes (4 ounces or so), but he said to check with the manager about buying the cases. I was just about to do that when I stumbled on our local popcorn supplier. Hope this helps By the way, I probably won't be around as much lately. It's not that I don't love you guys (sob, sob!).......we've been having some medical problems with our son and it has taken its toll. Any prayers you guys are willing to offer would be greatly appreciated! Chris

You are right on the button Luke Didn't notice that until you posted. For some of the more popular glitter (black, red, green, etc.), I buy in 3-5 pound sizes and get a significant discount with MF. However, I'm sure Lure Craft would offer those discounts too. Chris

Maybe it has something to do with their shipping method. I once ordered a 1/2 pound of black flake from Lure Craft, and they put it in a 10x10 ziplog baggie. Only a third of the baggie was filled with flake. Didn't make sense to me. I now buy all my flake from MF. The flake comes in nice convenient cannisters, and like Dave said.....much better prices too. Chris

Hey Chirmy, I'm a mentor??? Man that's a first for me.. Look forward to seeing you guys. Chris

Polyacrylamide is nothing like plastisol. It's actually an electrolysis gel used mainly for weight loss programs. If you've ever heard of the "Ab Energizer", it's a weight belt that supposed to build your ab muscles by electronic muscle movement. The gel that comes with the pack is almost pure polyacrylamide used as an electronic conductor. I only know this because I have the ab belt, and it sucks. Guess that's why you can get one now for less than 10 bucks. Chris

It also depends on the scent. Some are much stronger than others. I'm with Craig......I add my scent as close to the pouring state as possible. That stuff costs too much to cook out. Personally, I use Pro Cure almost exclusively now. I never use more than a drop per ounce. If you're using Lure Craft scent (with heavy salt)..... the garlic and anise is pretty strong; I mix about 2 drops per ounce. Crawfish and tour. pro - about 3 drops per ounce, and the shad is really weak - about 5 drops per ounce. Chris

Motor oil with red hi-lite is a cool craw color, also amber brown with orange hi-lite (red flake). Flake color is your choice. I always like copper, black, and red when making craw colors. Flake will also discolor your plastic while cooking, especially red and purple. Chris

Luke, Don't sweat it. Just keep your temperature a little lower on the white pearl. I've never had a problem with the silver pearl or copper. I use a lot of the copper with no burns yet. You haven't wasted your money. Chris

I noticed that Calhoun has gone up in price quite a bit; still a lot cheaper than Lure Craft or MF. BUT....when you consider the price jump is from 1.00 to 1.50 per pound, it won't be long before they start losing customers because of the 50% increases. Maybe they're starting to realize they can get higher prices now??? As far as sacrificing quality, that has always been a big concern for me. I have never felt like I'm sacrificing quality by using Calhoun though. It's just as good as Lure Craft in my book; you just need to add a little softener. I wish I had the same luck with 3-G plastic because their price in unbeatable. Chris

They do sell in gallon sizes (that's the smallest amount they sell in). However, you're better off buying the 5-gallon size, even if it takes awhile to go through it. It costs like 15 bucks to ship a gallon via UPS, whereas a 5-gallon jug is around 20 bucks. You may as well make that initial investment. At a buck per pound, you can't go wrong. Also, the plastic will never go bad. It will be there when you need it, even if it's 5 years from now. Chris

Red, I knew you were talented, but GEEZ..... you paint those on???? Very Cool

Thanks Mercury for mentioning that. I'd forgotten that the threadfin is a sauce rather than an oil. The threadfin does bubble, but not nearly as much as the other sauces (not sure why ). I love the smell of their crawfish, but I just can't mix it in the plastic. It does work great mixed in the bag with a touch of popcorn salt though. The anise scent has a very distinctive smell. It's awesome because it mixes the typical black licorice smell with many other natural juices. I like to use the minnow scent with my saltwater swimbaits. It has a natural shad scent; stronger than Lure Craft, but not nearly as strong as the threadfin. Bottom Fish is another good one; kinda middle of the road between crawfish and threadfin. Those are the only scents I've tried. If anyone fiddles with others, please let me know. So far I haven't found a scent by Pro Cure that I'm not sold on. Chris

Luke, I have the same problem with Lure Craft's pearl powder. I switched to MF and haven't had a problem since. Their pearl is also more of a brilliant color. Chris
-
Definitely the oil. The butter and sauces will make the plastic bubble. Mercury found out that there's sea salt in the butter and sauces that cause this. I use a mess of the garlic, anise, and threadfin shad scents. Chris

The Senko has actually been a success for a few years now, and it gets more popular every day. I'm with all you guys......I don't see any signs of it letting up. The price will confirm that, but let's face it.......the darn things flat catch fish. :!:

Hey Craig, Calhoun has worked just fine for me. It doesn't settle nearly as much as Lure Craft, and has very little smell. MF is by far the best plastic because you hardly need to mix that stuff at all, but for the price Calhoun is very workable. It is a hair tougher than Lure Craft 536. Nothing that a little softener won't fix. The price is about 1 buck per pound; half the price of L.C. or MF. You can call them at 1-706-629-9077. Ken Parker is the guy I spoke with at extension 107. Chris

I may be wrong, but I don't believe the eyes are poured in. I think most of them are stickers purchased at Lure Craft. Chirmy was kind enough to send me one of his lizard molds and I've been having a ball adding eyes to them. I just use the Pro Soft Bait Glue to attach them. Works great Chris

If you're using fluorescent pink for your bubble gum, the color MUST be added before heating or it won't take. I have added salt at all phases with the same results.
