I don't believe they sell in sizes smaller than 5 gallons, but for that price - I say "WHY NOT???" For those guys looking to make just a few baits for themselves, I think it would be better to stick with MF or Lure Craft. Just my opinion.........
-
It's very similar to 536 before adding the softener; maybe just a hair tougher, but I added softener when I used the 536. It just depends on your preference. I like my stuff REALLY soft Put it to you this way..... with Lure Craft's 536 formula, I'd add 2 cups of softener to 5 gallons of plastic. With Calhoun, I would go to 2 1/2 or 3 cups of softener. The worms made with Calhoun seem to hold together well. It might be worth it to you to give 'em a call and see if they can send you a sample. They sent me 5 gallons for free. I was a little shocked that they did that, but I ain't complainin'

It has a kinda "musty" smell while cooking, but I can't smell it in the end product, especially after adding scents. I used Lure Craft's shad scent (which is very mild) and all I could smell was the shad. If I can get these same results after a couple more gallons, then it works for me Chris

Yeah I know Bruce.....just givin' you a hard time My mind is always on colors

I finally got a chance to cook up my first batch of worms with Calhoun plastic. I had to mix it up really well 'cause most of the hardener had settled to the bottom. I don't think that will be a problem now that I have it on an automatic mixer. Keeping in mind that I only poured about 100 worms, I was overall pretty happy with it. I had to add about 1/2 cup of softener to the first gallon. I would say it's close to Lure Craft's 536 formula in texture. Depends on preferance, but I don't think the 536 is soft enough. I made a few worms in basic colors (just to test it), and it seemed to accept them all well. It didn't show any signs of burning on high heat, although it does have a unique smell when cooking It's not too bad though; nothing that a little garlic or crawfish oil can't take care of. The only thing I'm worried about is consistency, and only time will tell on that. I haven't used much of the stuff yet, but I plan on messin' with it for the next couple days. With a cheaper plastic, sometimes you can pour 300 good baits; then the next 100 will feel like sticks Just hope that's not the case here. Feel free to shoot any questions my way and I'll try to get 'em answered a.s.a.p.

I have used the Osprey swimbait in their trout pattern, and it works like a charm. They work great on our river around dusk when the bigger bass start roaming. Used to throw nothing but buzzbaits at that time, but now I've gone more to the bigger swimbaits. The funny thing is you'll catch a fair share of smaller bass on 'em too. It's not uncommon to catch a 12 inch bass on a 9 inch swimbait. Makes me wonder what the heck those fish are thinkin'

Hey Mercury, I too am amazed at the prices on those things. There is one simple solution as to why they sell 'em at ridiculous rates.......because they can :!: :!: I have a friend who sells a pre-rigged 10 inch swimbait for $22.99; and he sells the heck out of 'em :!: I have a few of his sample swimmies and I can tell you it might cost him 4 or 5 bucks a piece to make these things; hooks included. In fact, it might be less because I know he uses a super cheap plastic. That's a pretty darn good profit :!: The hard part is getting a nice customer base. I have just recently ventured into swimbaits (smaller sizes; not pre-rigs), and it's been one of my biggest challenges as far as sales go. It's very difficult to get a swimbait fisherman to try something new Once you do get a few regular customer, stores, etc., prices are not that big of deal to them if your baits are good quality and they catch fish Take a look at Yamamoto....... Are their Senkos a dynamite fish-catching product : You Betcha :!: Do they really need to charge 6 bucks for a 10-pack : No Way :!: They sell 'em for that simply because they can. I think they could charge 10 bucks per pack and still sell 'em. As it is, I can't begin to imagine what their profit margin is I just know my profit margin will never be close to theirs Chris

Well all I can say is times like these make me REALLY proud to live in a FREE country. It's really sad that somehow over the years we've become the Devil to these Middle Eastern people. Their kids are raised to hate us, and they know nothing else. Let's just keep supporting our troops, and pray for a successful mission and a safe return.

Hey Fellas, I just got that jug yesterday, and haven't tried it yet. I have a few more gallons to use before I put that one on the mixer. Hope to have an answer for ya in a couple days. So far, I can tell you this....... there's about 6 inches of hardener settled on the bottom, which obviously means it separates and will need to be mixed regularly. I've been spoiled with MF plastic. I normally don't have to do anything with their plastic; maybe just shake the jug a little or tip it side to side. If Calhoun's plastic doesn't burn or smell God-Awful, then it's a "Go" for me Stay Tuned.........

I'm a soft plastic guy, but I gotta say......that spinnerbait is INCREDIBLE

Bring on the Pictures. That sounds REALLY cool

I bought a microwave at Walmart yesterday for 33 bucks, and I thought that was a great deal. Never thought of Good Will. Thanks for the idea Red

Hey Ryno, I'm working on something to cover our butts on this cup dilemna. Will post if/when it works Maybe some of the wizard machinists on this site could help out : We're looking for anyone who makes a small (4 ounce) cup with the wooden handle. Any ideas  : Anyone  : These cups are ideal for making small amounts of baits, or constantly changing colors. From what I've learned, the old style was actually made by a toy manufacturer that went out of business. Now we are stuck with aluminum handles, and when you place those suckers on a hot burner........ Any input would be GREAT

I'm not sure about Jan's, but I use both Lure Craft and MF hi-lite powders. You can find Lure Craft's on the bottom of page 3 in the catalog, and MF's are in the powder section on their website. Hope this helps

I read all about the Delta tournament. Makes me wanna get up there and fish it again :!: I haven't been up there in years and it looks like it hasn't changed a bit. Sure didn't know Robert Lee used my stuff. I didn't even get a mention in the article But if you're willing to give me some credit, I'll sure take it

Someone once told me there are actually quite a few bass in the middle east. I.....UH.........think I'll pass on those fish though Chirmy..... I have a week of vacation and I need a fishin' partner. I'll be on the river every day this week. Where are you :

I know some guys use a syringe to pour in their 2-part molds, and it works fine for them. Sounds like kinda the same thing. I sometimes use a glue gun to make tails or dots on my baits. That just might work

Sometimes our own inventions work much better. You wouldn't believe some of the "doo-hickey's" I've come up with I think Barlow's also carries the tube cutters, but if you can do it yourself....THUMBS UP

Hey Mercury, Nice lookin' stuff. I especially like those Reapers The pictures have to be less than 50 KB to upload directly from your computer to the site. I learned the hard way. I can't find a small enough image to post myself. I use the macro lense on my digital camera and everything is HUGE :!:
-
Man I just go nuts every time I see you post pictures of your spinnerbaits. INCREDIBLE STUFF They'd look REALLY good in my tackle box
-
Forgot to comment on shipping...... The guy I spoke with (Ken Parker) is sending this jug for free as a trial, but he said normally a 5-gallon jug ships for about 15-20 bucks, depending on where you live in the U.S. Not too bad if the product is worth it

Hey Fellas, They are out of Calhoun, Georgia. Here's the address: P.O. Box 1295 Calhoun, GA 30710 I've got a 5-gallon jug coming and will gladly let you guys know how it works out. They run about 1.00 per pound, which is about a third what I pay now. BUT......I'm a little on the pessimist side here. Like Mercury said, I'm not about to sacrifice quality for price. I work with MF plastic now and I just can't find anything close to their quality. I used 3-G plastic for awhile, but was very disappointed. The consistency was terrible, the smell was awful, and it would burn in a heartbeat. I have a feeling this stuff might be the same Stay tuned......... Chris

You know how many French soldiers it takes to defend their country : Don't know.....it's never been tried
