    Hi-lites

    Hi-lites

I have used the blue hi-lite in the purple (strawberry) belly, but not the back. Will definitely give that a try. Sounds like another good one
  5. I found out a little more on Calhoun Plastics. For those interested, their phone number is (706) 629-9077. They are supposed to be a leader in bulk plastics, and MUCH less expensive than some of the Big Boys. I'm gonna call them and see if I can't drum up some samples or a smaller order - just to try it out. Will gladly post and let you all know how it measures up. Chris
  6. I need to get me a "girly" worm too, but she'd have to be out of the house before my wife gets home
  7. Sure makes sense Chirmy. Judging from the pictures and feedback on Del's molds, you can't go wrong there. He sure makes a dynamite product My other problem is the price. I know a lot goes into the molding (machine) process, but I would need to invest big bucks to have a good rotation of 2-part molds. I grew up fishing with hand-poured stuff, and you're right on the money with using a "confidence" bait. Sometimes I'll fish with the same bait all day - just because I like the feel and color. It might not be producing fish, but I just KNOW it will on the next cast Chris
  8. I have been hearing about a "not so new" plastic company called Calhoun Plastics. I guess they are based out of Georgia and have been in business for awhile now. For some reason, I never heard of them. I hear their prices are unbeatable, which always brings more questions.......how is the consistency? softness? does it burn? smell? etc. etc. etc. Anyone out there use the stuff, or care to share their thoughts : Chris
  9. Hey All, Anyone have a preference between the two?? hand-poured versus 2-part (injection) molds : Maybe it comes with the territory, but I have always had better success with hand-poured baits because of the action and color varieties. I have several 2-part molds, but can never seem to make consistent baits Any thoughts on this :

    Hi-lites

Hey Dan, Great call on the sweet potato/orange mix. I have to try that one. Sounds like a winner to me Don't know if you've tried this one, but I like to mix Green Pumpkin (Lure Craft's green pumpkin with a touch of brown) with green hi-lite. Mix in some black and gold flake and you've got a killer chunk color I also use the blue hi-lite with watermelon, and throw in a brown belly; very close to Aaron's Magic. Chris

    Im here

Our forecast today here in Central California is 78 degrees and sunny, but I can't fish. I promised the wife a day full of yard work I HAVE to get out of this. Anyone have any ideas Should I "call in sick" : I mean we can already hide most of our American troups in our back yard because of the grass and weeds. What difference is another week gonna make :
  12. A little off the fishing subject, BUT.....on the joke subject........ Why does the Iraqi Navy have glass bottom boats????? So they can see their Air Force
  13. Since we are on the hi-lite subject, I thought I'd share this with you. I was working on trying to get a "rust" color, and by George......I think I've got it :!: .......I use a little watermelon color (about 1 drop per ounce of plastic), mix in a touch of both red and orange hi-lite, and add a little black flake. There you have it :!: My color wheel never stops spinning

    Hi-lites

Hey Red, I get all my powder from MF now. Those guys sold me on their plastic, and their other products ain't too shabby either I noticed that their pearl is actually brighter than Lure Craft's, and it holds the color with heat a little better. I can get a decent hi-lite if I put a pinch of pearl in the mixture; just enough to offset the hi-lite colors. I've got a bunch of MF's pearl mixtures coming in the mail, and I can't wait to try 'em Chris
  15. I once saw a guy on ebay selling a soft plastic worm that he called "Hybrid Bug". It looked to me like a cross between junebug and redbug; very cool lookin' color. I always thought this was the explanation of "hybrid"; crossing 2 species/colors. Considering that, I guess I make lots of hybrids, and I would assume lots of us tacklemakers do to If anyone has any pictures of their hybrids (soft or hard plastics), I would sure love to see 'em. Chris

    Hi-lites

Hey Chirm, Looks like I figured it out! Couldn't get logged on there to save my life I guess you have found out by now that the hi-lite colors are a bunch of fun, but they can sometimes be a pain in the ... too For some reason, I have trouble adding hi-lites to white and pearl colors. They just don't seem to take them well unless you use a bunch of hi-lite and a touch of white or pearl. Most colors will accept hi-lites well, with the exception of just a few. As for the orange and red, I mainly use those in light smoke patterns. It gives the bait a nice "irridescent" look, especially if you have a hi-lite/smoke back with a pearl belly, or a belly of your choice. The gold hi-lite MUST be used in small amounts. If you overdo it with the gold, everything will look GOLD! I like to use the gold in jet black; this gives the bait a nice "swirl/calico" effect. The same can be said for red; looks just like red shad, without having to make that extra pour. I use the blue and green hi-lites the most. These are excellent for neon colors, especially with veins. Just add a touch of green hi-lite with green color, and a couple drops of black, and BAM!....you have a killer neon color :!: Overall, hi-lites are something that you just have to experiment with. If you have some ideas, let me know. I might be able to tell you if it will work. I have messed with hi-lites so much that I sometimes see 'em in my sleep
