  1. If they are pre rapala warts, you can simply wipe off the paint with lacquer thinner. There is no top coat on them.
  2. Makes no difference. Either way works fine.

Welcome home Nate! We will continue to pray for a speedy recovery.
  4. If you hold the lure about a foot away when you sprinkle you won't have the problem of spots. Let the flake slowly float down and it spreads pretty even. Like I said before, if you don't like the way the flake looks, wipe it off and fix it. Also, mixing it with the clear coat will only work if you are flaking the whole lure. What if you just want it on the belly or sides. I guess you would have to mix clear with flake and without. You won't get a smooth finish with flake in the clear coat. Some will rise up and stick out of the clear.
  5. I shoot a clear waterbase polyurethane on the lure. While it is still wet, I sprinkle on the flake. Let the polyurethane dry and you can clear coat with your favorite epoxy. The dried polyurethane holds the glitter in place and leaves a smooth finish with epoxy. Also with the waterbase, if you dont like the way the glitter looks you can wipe it off (while its wet) and try again.
  6. I wish you could get Dick Nite's urethane in a spray can. Is there a problem putting moisture cure urethanes in spray cans?
  7. I'm not sure, but on the green craw it might be a crackle finish. Bob is dead on with the rest of the advise and he might be right on with the netting also. Hard to tell if it is crackle finish or net movement without seeing the lure in person.

Perfect! I wouldn't change a thing. Great Job!
  10. We tumbled our balsa raw to remove the duplicator turn marks. They were very fine lines so it didn't take much to remove them. Then we would seal them and let dry. The grain will raise from the sealer so we would tumble the again and the would come out ready for paint.
  11. Mark, I sure it would. It just might take a little longer.
  12. We used one for years sanding thousands of balsa baits. It worked great. We lined the inside with 120 grit paper and also threw in a bunch of foam sanding pads. It was just a matter of timing. Leave them in to long and they would be to small. You just had to check them every once in a while. It didn't take long to figure out how long to leave them in. They came out of the mixer ready to seal.
  13. Well said Skeet. That covers it all!!!!!!!
  14. You might try painting them black (lacquer), and then, a rat grey maybe with a hint of brown(water based). While the grey is still wet try combing it with a fine tooth comb. Use short strokes. Let streaks of the black show through .Just play around with. If you dont like the look wipe off the water base grey and try again.
  15. The stuff on my website is pretty basic stuff. What you don't see is the hundreds of lures people have sent us over the past 30 years to copy paint schemes on to other lures. This can be very hard to do depending on the details involed. And we somehow pull it off. The other part you don't see is the designing paint schemes for Bass Pro Shops, Storm, and Pradco. They want more than the basic paint job. Here's some examples: http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-XPS-Z9R-Perch-Swimbaits/product/10210240/ http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-XPS-Lazer-Eye-Hardbaits-Static-Shad/product/45149/ http://www.basspro.com/Strike-King-KVD-Rattling-Square-Bill-Crankbaits/product/10209674/ http://www.basspro.com/STORM-Original-Wiggle-Wart/product/58651/ On the warts only the red craw, moss back, creek craw, orange brown craw, phantom green blue, phantom pb&j, phantom brown orange craw, and the peanut butter and jelly craw are mine.
  16. Shipping cost almost as much as the product. $19 for product and almost $14 to ship. Has to be a better way.
  17. My paint jobs do catch fisherman. Fisherman like Larry Nixson, George Cochran, Stacy King, Randy Blaukat, Tommy Martin, Gary Klien, John Sappington, Brent Chapman, Robbie Dodson, KVD, Mike McClelland, plus many, many more. Thanks to everyone who has purchased my lures over the past 30 years. Color does matter. At least these pros think so.
  18. Great idea JBlaze! Looks killer!
  19. There are a few differences between the old and new warts. The old warts were a different kind of plastic and had lead weights instead of steel. The originals say wiggle wart under the bill. The new ones say Storm. People swear by the old warts. Some sell on ebay for $150 each. Most of them between $20 to $40.
  20. Sweet collection. The best part is they still catch fish. I have learned a lot from those lures. Hughesy
  21. Ask Skeeter. He makes the best flat sided cranks I've ever used.
  22. You might try ribbon like you would use for wrapping a present. You can buy it in different widths. It is very strong. Try ripping it.
  23. Here is some I posted back in 2009 http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/index.php?/gallery/image/5292-hughesys-swimbaits/ http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/index.php?/gallery/image/5293-hughesys-swimbaits/
