You really didn't move the tow point very much.......I'm curious if the lure will still swim fine with the two point bent back up to where it was originally. The tapered head and body is probably what made the lure work......good for you for figuring it out! The other thing is, did you change the weight? If not then you essentially "added weight" because you removed some of the buoyancy when you removed some of the wood. Jed

I agree...........every swimbait I have built has beveled edges and I generally always start with the tow point in the center and nearly all of them work perfectly. It just goes to show that we are still learning here on TU. Beautiful action on your lure by the way, looks great!!!

I agree with Nate, that shape should swim without any problem. Try changing the weight, if that doesn't work, my suspect is the hinge mechanism. Take out the through-wire and try the old standby of one screw eye connected to another and see if that works. RM

Hard to beat Bondo from my experience. If it didn't stay in place you may have not given it enough space to grab. If you try to put it into a really shallow hole it or on a mostly smooth surface it won't work very well. Give it another try, bondo is great! RM:yay:

That is going to be a good swimmer too with all those joints...should have a nice sinuous motion even at slow speeds.

Your wife asks you why there was a $100 charge to Wal-Mart for something called "Devcon". You can honestly write off the taxes on half your house because it is now a lure factory. This includes the kitchen, a bedroom, half the family room, and all of the garage. You give a friend a ride in your vehicle and it takes you two minutes to clean the lures, hooks, molds, and various other lure building tackle off the passenger seat before they can safely get in. You write off 10,000 miles per year for "trips to the pond to research lures"............and this is a conservative estimate!

If you are using a soft wood like balsa a hinge like you have designed is probably good since you are running it "through-wire". For most swimbaits though it seems to me that using a harder wood and some easier type of hinge mechanism would save time and ultimately provide just as much reliability.
