  1. Guys I'm looking for some 10mm hard plastic eyes.......not the stick on soft eyes. I did find some but they have a plastic post on the back which is a real pain. I'm hoping to find some that are flat on the back to make them easy to glue in. Thank you. Jed
  2. Yes...........more joints up to a point will mean more action, more body movement. Look at a lure you like and then notice how many joints it has. Also, I would suggest you build your swimbait out of a solid plastic material of some kind because it can be difficult to get wood to seal properly. Good luck. Jed

You could do the carving if you practiced awhile Ben. My first few looked like I did the carving with a rock but as time goes along you get a little better. The hardest part for me is always the mouth. Thank you.

Wow, there are some beautiful lures in the gallery! I haven't posted a picture for a long time so here is a couple of recent swimbaits. This lure painted in a baitfish pattern is 10 inches long and weighs about 8 ounces.
  6. DN gets yellower with years too...........I have some lures I did almost 10 years ago that are quite yellow now. It's defiitely a tough clear though. RM
  7. Thanks for the response guys. I'm still undecided as to whether I will try the lacquers because of concerns with toxity. RM
  8. I haven't ever used lacquer based paints and clears and wondering how toxic this stuff is if used with a good spray booth and vent system. Also, anyone using water based paints with auto clears as top coat? Thanks, RM
  9. I still have the light I used, I bought it at the recommendation of the Solarez guys........didn't work. I must have had the wrong spectrum. Can someone post some pics of lures they have finished with the solarez? RM
  10. I bought tanning lights and after 15 minutes or longer the stuff still wasn't cured up. I didn't try it outside though, probably because it was cold and very cloudy so maybe that would have worked. Unlike Lincoya I found the odor to be horrible, almost like opening up a can of gasoline in your shop. Maybe they have changed the formula since I tried it? I love the idea of a UV cure coat and think this could be the future for lure builders but my first tests with this product were not very convincing. RM
  11. Would you buy another one? And, would you recommend the lure to a friend?
  12. So what do you use when there is no sun?
  13. I tried this stuff years ago after buying a tanning/blacklight to cure it with. I couldn't get it to cure quickly enough so gave up on it. As I recall the odor was HORRIBLE! So bad I quickly had to move the operation into the garage. I love the idea but I ran into two problems, odor and cure time. RM

You did a nice job on this lure.
  17. It's a lot of work, definitely not an easy thing to do. With all the information online now on how to build a good lure there seems to be another lure business springing up everyday. But............that doesn't mean it can't be done, it's like any other business, to make money at it, you have to be better than most. RM

Love the wobbler with the jointed body.....nice lures
  19. Hey Kjelle, didn't realize that was you! Maybe I will see you in Chicago this winter? We are planning on making another trip out that way. Thanks everyone for the help, much appreciated. Jed
  20. Pikestalker........are you using the 6rpm motor at that link? thx. jed
  21. Yes.....that was a typo. Mark...........I'm hoping to buy a motor that won't require me to replace it for five or more years and that's why I am looking at the more expensive motor options.
