  1. About the same here, 20 years ago we would get snow that would last for weeks and weeks and now we very seldom get any snow. This year the mountains actually have a substantial amount of snow, the first time in 5-10 years. We get our share of wind too, there are windmills on many of the ridge tops not far from me. Jed V.
  2. Well done, wish we had your weather, near zero here today. RM
  3. That is a good price! Here is where I usually get mine: http://www.rsquality.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=654&idproduct=3201
  4. Definitely something on the surface of the foam........you need to talk to others using the same product and see how they have solved the problem. jed
  5. As I understand it Patents generally have a life and I don't recall right off hand what that is. You might google "life of a patent" and see what you come up with. Jed V.
  6. Great link Dean, thank you. Good luck George!! Jed

    Hammerhead

    very cool and well built.....
  8. Yes, test one before going any further. Nothing more discouraging than to find out a lure won't swim after you have finished it. Great job! jed v.
  9. Not sure what you mean by the Scallop but I will tell you that although the hook rides right near the tail it doesn't seem to affect action in the least. Weight? About 3.5 ounces (98 grams). Fatfingers, yes you can fish it like a jerkbait and I should have shown this better on the video. The video isn't the greatest and I hope to do another once the weather changes and I can film outside. Jed
  10. It sinks Mark and can be counted down to whatever depth you wish to fish it. Jed V.
  11. Fellow builders, I didn't build this one guys but I did design it. The swimbait is made from injected plastic and is nine inches in length. The video isn't the best because the pool we were using is poorly lit but you can see the action of the lure pretty well. Hope you like it. Jed V. http://youtube.com/user/BikiniBaitCompany
  12. Some great ideas, thanks!!! I'm just thinking at this point, my shop is freezing and for the moment lure building has come to a halt!! Jed
  13. Anyone bought a commercial dust collector they would recommend? I was hoping to find something that I could move to various parts of the shop depending on where I was working. thx. Jed V.
  14. I'm curious why you guys are talking about microballoons with the foam. I haven't used the Alumalite version of foam but I have used Feather Lite by smoothon and it is like most foams........very light! The only time I used micro-balloons was with a plastic product like smoothcast. I hear ya Tigger on the cost.......I figured it out once and it seemed to me that the cost per musky bait was going to be about 3 dollars with smoothcast and microballons. Of course there are advantages to using a plastic or foam but the cost is definitely high. Jed
  15. Use the search and tutorials on the site, you can probably find all the answers you are looking for. RM
  16. Pete (Hazmail), that is a really cool tutorial.......you are truly a woodworker. Thanks for sharing that with all of us. Jed V.
  17. I have tried plaster many times in the past and it will work.......about once! Even if you harden the mold in the oven and coat it with Devcon it will crank along the edges after a casting or two. Take the advice of Coley.....it's the only way to go. Jed
  18. Some great ideas being shared here but it seems to me that if you are going to go to the trouble of building pumps, buying vacuums, etc., then you may as well just change what you are building the lures from. Cut the lures out of one of the many plastics on the market or just mold the lures from a foam or 2-part plastic and be done with it. If you are really worried about water getting to the wood, do as many others are on the board and use your clear coat as the sealer. Jed V.
  19. I have been experimenting with smoothcast and it says to measure part a and part b by "volume" not "weight". For a period of time though I was weighing each part out equally and it seemed to work fine too. As for microballons, unless you are really going for something light I would guess that you could do something far less than the max allowable and still get a model that will easily float. If you wanting something to float high then a foam might be a better choice for you. Jed V.
  20. Be careful buying used........I bought a used brush once and it was so clogged with old paint that I spent a full day cleaning it. If he has always cleaned the brush and the cone tip (tiny tip on the front end) isn't flared and the needle is perfectly straight (watch for slight bend at the very tip) you would be ok. If any of these pieces is damaged and you have to replace it you will be back over 100 dollars into the brush immediately. RM
  21. The one I have is just a general compressor and it works great. I bought it at a local hardware store and it's a 16 gallon size I believe. I had one smaller before this one and didn't like it because it kicked on too much. This one I fire up before I paint and then generally only have to recharge it once or twice during each paint session. RM
  22. You did a beatiful job on the lures............. Jed V.
  23. Merry Christmas to all you tacklebuilders and thank you Jerry and moderators for another great year of TU. Jed V.
