  1. Hey it looks great! And thank you for the kind words too. That bait has some mojo, good to see you brought it back to life!! Jed V.
  2. The ingenuity on this site amazes me. I no more build that contraption than fly to the moon!! lol. Cool idea, good for you. jed v.

Beautiful baits.......my wife says the pic looks just like her kitchen table, lol. Jed V.
  4. Well if it makes you guys feel any better I posed this same question on TU many years ago and ultimately it ended up with no answers. If we were all working with perfectly predictable materials and methods such as injectable molds with tolerances out to .0001 and hard plastics I think it would make things considerably easier. But...when one considers the amount of variables within a single piece of wood, wood types, etc, the picture gets considerly less clear. Really much of this work has been done already and all one has to do is look at the works of others. I am not talking about a direct copy of another lure necessarily but if you want a bait to dive shallow, deep, etc., there is literally thousands of examples to help guide you through the process. Jed V.
  5. I've noticed that etex is perfectly clear and always has been. Jed V.

    "Peace of Mind"

    Hey these are awesome.
  8. If you can afford it the Iwata Eclipse is a good brush. Alot of guys will probably tell you to get a Paasche but I personally found a world of difference between the Paasche and the Iwata. An Elipse is about 80 bucks I think at DixieArt. I am using a Peak II from BearAir right now and it's good too. You will also need a compressor. The fist one I bought was too small and kicked on all the time. The one I have now is about 30 gallons and it was about 100 dollars I think, works great. You might look for one at a pawn shop, second hand store. You might look for the brush on Ebay...just a thought. Get your paints at Wal-Mart...water based, cheap, thin with water to milk-like consistency. One other thing, empty the compressor after every use to get rid of water that collects in the bottom of it. Good luck.

    Beautiful job.

    beautiful.....
  11. It probably would work but you will destroy the cooker in the process. If you are just going to build a few baits for now you could use Devcon 2-ton and just hand turn them while watching tv for 10 or 15 minutes and then set them aside to dry.....just an idea. RM
  12. I have chinook lures (kwikfish) that I have used for three years with nothing more than three coats of Rustoleum on them...still going strong. If you expect the bait to be crashing into rocks continually then something tougher might be needed.......or just spray on another coat. RM
  13. Rustoleum lacquer.....comes in a can, three coats, done deal. RM
  14. What is that Husky? Where might I find some? Generally speaking Dramone you will have better luck using a soft flexible material like silicone while molding something rigid like foam. Soft materials on the other hand like soft plastic lures can be easily molded with rigid molds like those you built with the putty. RM

    Fins

I think some of them make a stencil, spray throught it, and then come back and add thin rib-like lines. Just a guess tho. RM
  16. Wow, lots of work but beautifully done. Try making 500 of those and then see if you can keep from strangling someone, lol. jed v.
  17. Do you have to sit and run the duplicators one lure at a time? How long does it take to crank out one musky sized lure woodie? jed
  18. 45 for everything...if I need less pressure I just let out less air with the brush. RM
  19. Last year we killed the smallies on a copper colored (like a shiny penny) ratltrap.
  20. Congrats Dean....another year ahead full of hours building baits!!! Life is good. jed v.
  21. Very nice, I like it!!
  22. TJE, I have a used Paasche airbrush that you can have if you want it. You will still have to scrounge up a compressor somewhere......look around at a second-hand store or something. Send me a PM with your mailing address and I will send it out to you. As far as paints, buy the "apple barrel" or similar water-based cheap paints at wal-mart..less than a dollar per color and thin them with water. You want to thin them down to about the consistency of milk...just a bit thicker than water. Start spraying at 40 PSI..if they won't spray thin a bit more. If they spray and run all over, thicken up a bit. You can use a 2 dollar can of Krylon white as a your base primer, let dry, then come over the top with the cheap wal-mart paints, let dry, then clear with Devcon 2-ton (also at Wal-Mart) and you will be ready to rock! jed v.
