  1. Devcon is a resin based epoxy. The only difference between 5 min. and the long cure Devcon is the hardner. The hardner is either fast or slow. 5 min. uses the fast hardener. It reacts quicker causing the resin to set faster. The reaction between the hardener and the resin causes alot of heat. I call the hardener in the 5 min. epoxy "HOT". This heat is what causes yellowing at times. By curing quicker it looses some tensile strength. 500lbs. to be exact. The hardner in the long cure cures the resin slower and therefore does not yellow (most of the time) and is stronger. If you want to feel the difference.... take a piece of tin foil and mix up a batch of 5 min. and hold it in your hand. You will feel the heat from the reaction. Now do the same with the long cure. You probably won't even feel it. Skeeter
  2. Thank you Ben. Skeeter

  5. Can someone tell me where I can buy some true brass screw eyes? Not nickle plated, but true brass color. Thanks, Skeeter
  6. That is the problem. You are trying to get faster at making the bait run correctly. Make it right the first time and everytime that you experiment. It is a real hassle I know... but it is what needs to be done. That lip is not for a mid diver. That is a 20 ft. plus lip if the lure is made and ballanced right. Personally I think that the lip is too big. Put a 300 lip in it and try it. Skeeter
  7. Move the line tie towards the body 1/8 of an inch. The closer the line tie gets to the nose of the lure the more wobble the lure will have. Also... you have one big hole in the lip for the line tie. Make the line tie in a U shape and make a separate hole for each end. The first time that a fish hits that lure your wire will go loose. The lure will never tune correctly and it will definitely affect the action. Put eyes in the holes on the lure and clearcoat it. This will make the bait a practice lure. You will have to cut the lip out and replace it. Maybe several times to see if the action that you desire can be gotten out of that body and lip combination. The angle on that lip looks good for now. I would not take it down any further. The lip on that lure looks a little over powering to me. If you still have problems send me an PM. Skeeter

    Gel coats?

Now Dave..... there were only lively discussions about clearcoats. I was the only open minded one in the bunch. Skeeter
  9. None of them. They are all garbage. Skeeter
  10. Now you guys did not think that I would let this opportunity go by did you? Devcon is the best and cheapest clearcoat that you can use. It is also tough. One coat and you are done. EVERY cleacoat cracks. If anyone knows of something that doesn't please let me know. But for 9yrs. now I have coated my crankbaits with Devcon. Haven't had one complaint yet. Skeeter
  11. Mike,

The problem was the temp. in your garage. Devcon is best applied at 70-72 deg with about 30% humidity.

  12. If you shoot lacquer then there will be no problem. Just shoot it. You won't have to do any prep at all. Skeeter

    Worm Oil

I need some help here fellas. What is the best type of oil to put into a worm bag? I have some bass pro anise oil that I am using now. But it seems to dry up in the bag in a short period of time leaving my plastics sticky. I really need something to keep them wet and slick. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Skeeter
  15. I bought a bunch of old DBII and III's. Some of the lips are crooked. I want to straighten them out and leave the original paint job. I am going to rework some of them and repaint them also. Long ago Calvin Johnson taught me how to weight them. I want to play with them and see if all of the work is worth it. I have my own lip that is actually better than the originals, but I want to use the originals in some of the others. You did a good job replacing those lips. Skeeter.
  16. Hail, Hail... the gangs all here. CC it has been a REAL long time since I have seen you. Glad to see you take a break. You are one of the few that have done well at this game. Teach all that you like my friend. Many could learn from you. Skeeter
  17. AHHH.... KC.... It has been a long time my friend. BUT.... You need to squash the bird that told you that I was spraying urethane. I did on 9 baits this past winter. I was having some trouble with my beloved Devcon. But I found out what the trouble was. I need to test this new stuff that the bird has. He may be onto something. He did some beautiful paintjobs for a guy in Mo. He clearcoated them with the "New Stuff". I liked what I saw. The bird did a killer job as always. But I have not committed to it yet. I am still using Devcon. Ask the bird who I will be making crankbaits for next. Those baits will be clearcoated with Devcon. After 9 yrs. I am still clearcoating with Devcon. Skeeter
  18. Delta, I am a "Hobby Guy". And, I have made a few crankbaits in my time. Some people on this site know me. The old guys here will tell you about me and Devcon. So let me just tell you how it is. Devcon is the best that you can use. Don't worry about production, worry about getting it right. You don't need to thin, heat, or special anything with Devcon. The only thing that you have to do is put it on at the right temperature. There is another thing that you have to watch. If you send me a PM I will tell you what it is. You see… the thing here is that you can make a fair amount of money or you can make exceptional crankbaits. But, you can’t do both. I have watched people for the past 9 yrs. try and come up with something better than Devcon. They haven’t done it yet. Putting on Devcon is both a skill and an art. You have to do it a lot to be good at it. Keep working at it and I will help you if I can. Skeeter
  19. Uh.... I just wanted to know how to remove the lip. I really enjoyed reading all of this. Just got to it tonight. (I work 7 days a week). Some of you guys still have alot of pepper in ya. Reminds me of the old days on the site. Craig.... Ouch! You are still brutal. I will be back to put in my . We all know that it will be tastefull because I am such an . Skeeter
  20. Thanks for the replys. Does anyone have an idea of the year of these baits? Personally I do not think that the bait Takahiro was using was a Bagley. I think it was one of Jeff Thompson's baits. I think that same bait was the one that Clunn used on Beaver lake also. Skeeter
  21. I just bought a dozen DBII and DBIII baits. They are older ones in a orange and white pkg. They are all made in the USA. I got them in a Homer and another color called LG9. It is a yellow bait with green painted down the back (no scales) and an orange stripe down the belly. Does anyone know what color this is called? The DBIII's have a shaved lip. I have never seen this before. Also... Why does everyone love these baits so much? Not one has a lip that is straight. Some of the bodys are crooked too. I just don't get it. But I want to straighten up he lips on them. Does anyone have a slick way to get the lips out of one of these plugs without any damage? I would like to straighten them up and do some custom work on them. Thanks, Skeeter
  22. Coley is right. Bagley did start the wooden dowel thing. If you use an oak dowel rod then the screw eye will really hold. Skeeter
  23. Bullet proof polycarbonate that is used is 1 1/2 thick. However, they make it thinner. Not that it will stop a bullet, but it is almost pure polycarbonate. It definitely won't break. Skeeter
  24. I fail to see why they would be on the "Wall of Shame" They look pretty good to me. NO ONE is good overnight. People like Prior, Hughes, and Sellars have spent decades learning how to paint. They love it. That is why they are so damn good. Keep at it. You have alot of potential. Be proud of your work. You spent alot of time on those lures. Skeeter
