the weight of the glitter vs how hot your plastic is. have your plastic a little cooler and it will suspend fine. there is a pro and con of using metal glitters. the one main con is that it sinks faster than regular glitter, however it doesnt bleed at higher temps. if you have a bait that uses alot of plastic and takes a while to cool down then you will also have the problem of glitter sinking , so in taht case you would need t run less heat ( may not work) or use poly glitters which will may or may not bleed, its all about trial and error. A piece of nylon rope and a lighter will make you a great master for a mold. use the lighter to form the head ( make sure you wear glooves cause nylon is nasty when it gets hot. when you say remelt floating plastic , if its the strike king worms that doesnt work very well. remelts do work from a few different companies, like cabelas and brass proshops own stuff, some of them use calhoun plastic and its remeltable. zoom, berkely senkos and a few others use additives in there plastic and you will never get the same hardness softness, plus it stinks alot. Not to mention you can get a quart or gallon of fresh plastic for around 30 bucks or less from any of the companies who sell it

how much did you add? what else did you add in to the baits? salt scent ect ect. If your trying to pour a bait with out salt and its sticky sounds like either way to much softener or you didnt shake the plastic enough. if you had salt in the bait then you may have added too much softener for the salt you put in or you didnt shake it up enough. important thing is did you shake the plastic up well enough and How much softener did you add and what else did you put in the plastic, with out that its only guessing games

Steelhead/stickfloat rods (same thing ???)
Delw replied to philB's topic in Rod & Reel building & repair
I was able to buy a 13 foot blank (actually size was a tad bigger than 12'6"), its the old school yellow fenwick steel head Blank when I live in washington state. there was a fly fishing shop and rod building shop ran but the owner of fenwick, right across the street from the sea-tac mall. I believe he had these brought in custom maybe?? when I say old school I am serious it was in 1977-78 and it was a woodworking class project in middle school. Still have the rod too sitting up in the attic -
Spike you know I always thought the same thing about vibration, however if I dead stick a bait I will get bites and catch fish, late last night we were dead sticking 5" senkos and dropshotting that was the only way we could catch them. most of my droshot fish through the years have been dead sticking as well. oh on the color I should have clarified that better, when I say color doesnt make a difference I am meaning 3-4 color pours. I am betting that if you had a 3 color worm that was working lets say green brown and blue. and had single color worms in green brown and blue, that one of those colors would work just as well. On single colors sometimes changeing colors helps sometimes not. It is also a confidence thing for sure thats why I use white reds and pinks, my best fish and most of the tournys I placed in were mostly caught on reds whites and pinks. I really believe in all the fishing I have done that fancy colors is mostly to sell to the fishermen.

Color is one of the most important things but ony if your selling baits. People buy baits cause they are cool looking, wether they work or not. I myself even stilll buy baits that are cool looking, multi colors etc. when I am at the local store you can hear people say it all the time. "wow thats a cool color" and they walk out with 5 bags of them. Why do you think robo worm got so popular, they took pourng fancy colors to a new level wiith transparent ones. In all honesty I bet roboworms outsell senkos on the west coast 3-1. my buddy owns a pretty nice tackle shop and they are always low on robos. but my three main colors that I use for fishing are white red and pink in both softpalstic and hard baits and blades. ( yeah I have a ton of HOT pink spinner and buzzbaits) Delw

try adding some Lc pumpkin into it and see if that gives you a better watermellon color. you should be fine with what your using, in all honesty I have no idea why its green and not watermellon. Just by chance your aren't over cooking the plastic are you? ie the clear plastic is getting yellow and smoking alot?
-
I've used both LC, MF and my watermellon and have gotten watermellon. you have to put more drops if you are using salt due to the salt is opaque(white), also don't forget to shake the color up very well the pigments settle pretty good, its a pretty good Idea to drop a few 1/4-20 nuts in there and then shake it up. one other thing glitter color will throw your color off as well, and if your glitter is bleeding you will get an entirly different color. I assume your not using any additives besides the salt plastic softenr and glitter? if you are these also could have an effect on your color.

I was using straight med. but the tails moved to fast so been using Hard. I don't do that many maybe a 4-5 a month. on the seperation you might need to dip them a little faster, especially with the hard plastics to it will adhear. now if I could only paint that would fix one of my problems. as far as the tails being bite off is it only on the fish that have teeth? Delw

depending on how thin it is,your plastic will have to be hot, the other thing is to cut a groove on each side at the bottom of the tail out, this will help the air escape and flow better. hacksaw width is fine and about pin dia depth .015-.020
-
There is a better thread also it has a picture and how to dip the blade. will also give you a better idea. I was going to grabb all the basstrix stuff and put it all in one post(condence it) at one time but just got to busy.
-
Read post number #31 and from there probally to the end. http://www.tackleunderground.com/forum/soft-plastics/9973-basstrix-paddle-tail-tubes-4.html
-
JSC, do a search ( I will try also) for basstrix, I posted a how too last year or the year before. its pretty simple
-
Gunnie Also if you use the spinner bait trck you can rub your finger over the edge and it will take the plastic off the tail perfectly.
-
they are just under 3/8 I should have givin you the size, they are .370-.365 not even close to what you need. I could have sworn we bought some in the 1/4 inch range but I dont see them.
-
Gunnie right now the smallest I have is just under 3/8" and have a few hologram ones.
-
squigster basstrix runs automation so every batch will be the same, they have adjustments that will allow them to control the depth and time of each dip. when your hand dipping, you will never get the same do to human error. you can make a cheap makeshift dipper with some wood, a dowel rod and a spring, use some all thread so you have a stop. if you dip three times in three positions you can make one for each cycle or you can make a all thread stop rotate for three different positions. instead of all thread you can just use a bolt also this will take most of the human error out. extreamly simple to do and you can do it with simple hand tools

we have about 20,000 eyes at the shop, had them for 6+ months just havent put them online yet. I don't know if we have that size but know we have some smaller ones. what colors you looking for?

no reason to be sorry blazer, not your fault, its a public forum so to speak with many different opinions likes and dislikes. Iv'e owned forums for years and year even before tu was around its a nature of the beast, then you throw in manufacturers into the mix of users and you will have some issues. it happens it will never change and we all need to deal with it like there is. Bruce, there are 5 different brands of plastic, actually more but 5 major ones. they all look different at this time or that time. however they all produce the same results. Hardness can't be counted in for a difference in plastic companies because every company has a different hardness and its user controlable, meaning that a user can add hardener or softener to manipulate the plastic. for example we dont sell a super soft plastic only because I don't want to mess with it. I can have calhoun mix a batch up for me or I can mix my own its as simple as adding softener. but I want the same consistancy all the time and dont want to mess with it. not to mention almost ever bait pourer likes a different feel as well as every customer. then of cource if I or calhoun or anyone for that matter makes one mistake in the hardness or softness the manufacturer will hear about it. Most of the time but not all the user is in control of the plastic as far as consistancy, if they don't mix it thourghly they will get a completely different result. we have seen it on this forum many times, guys have sticky baits or the plastic wont set. its not the plastic its due to mixing.
-
yes and No they will look just like a basstrix/bassproshop minnow with the same hollow cavity. however you can paint them with paint and glue the eyes on them like they are or you can run one clear dip to protect the eyes and paint its up to you. some guys are running water based paints on there baits and those guys would have to dip it if they want the paint to stay and not crack. the clear coat will esentually protect the paint job on this type of paint. on the bait paint lure craft and others sell its not ness. the eyes also have a indentation in them so if you run them with out a final clear dip it will protect them better.

Call it what you will, How ever I will stick up for lurecraf amd Mf aslo and have if there is a problem. I am stateing facts and specifics, whats happens on a forum is things get taken way way out of context. and people jump to conclusions for example. if a guy posts I have bubbles in my plastic ( any manufacturer) you will get 600 replies all different, some people saying this plastic is no good that plastic is no good its your colors or this or that etc etc. or a very typical problem "I have to use alot of drops of colorant" there are 2 correct answers for this. one the person is using salt in the baits and the most common one that is done by every one including my self sometimes. is colorants settle very badly and they need to be shaking up extreamly well befor each use.Btw its best to put 2 1/4-20 nuts in each bottle. when the problem could be the additives. In these forums over the years WAY too many people give answers and they dont have specifics. which could be the wrong answer. This is why it is very important for guys haveing problems with ANYTHING to give specifics on every detail. Its kinda like someone posting about a boat problem, " my boat won't get on plane" there are 600 answers but if the guy specifcally said "my boat wont get on plane on a lake in the mountains which is 7500 feet elevation " then it would be much easier to figure the problem out. sorry if I sound technical but that is the only way a problem will get solved or fixed. I knew it was the plastic that separates. Calhoun is more noticable, as far as why the difference between the 2 batchs good question, it may have been that your last container was packaged up and sitting on the shelf longer than the first one. When we get the drums we mix the drum for 12-16 hours automatically. then pour in the containers, you could have gotten a batch right after we mixed and the second one while be in the same batch as its been sitting on the shelf. hard to say we get 200-300 gals at a time. No matter what plastic you use it needs to be thourghly mixed to get the best consistancy.

LMAO, Thats why we deemed it to dangerous anymore. the nuts I hung around with in the early 80's we always had to do a one up. well since I was the the one who didnt want to be shown up, I had to do almost everything the first time. I don't know how to swim ( I can if I needed to but I hate water), so these guys figured they would teahc me to water ski. after 4 hours I could only go straight, so since I wasnt in control of the boat the figured they would make me turn. you know those no wake bouyes they have on lakes, when your young they are called "learn to avoid them bouyes". you guessed it they got me going and headed right for them I wacked a few but learned to turn very quickly. then of course came the on land landings which I later found out non of those guys have ever done it ( well till it was my turn on the boat) my very first try I did it. they put me right into the beach on a point. they were in aw the next few times it was bloody nose's and cuts and bruises. Payback was a #####. I love to water ski still just havent done it in a long time, last time my buddy was barefooting it and he took a plunge at over 60mph ( practising for a barefoot compitition) he end up with a frackture neck, dislocated collar bone and a broken nose. all he hit was water. I will stick with fishing, its safer and i dont get wet;)

Dave cool pic. had a 11 inch bass eat a 5" chub e a week ago. then not to be outdone a friend was throwing a tiny e and caught a 5inch bass, it was a small bass big bait night including a 5inch blue gill on a 4/0 hook with a 6" wacky rigged senko

in AZ you just need to leave them in the sun for a few mins and they will straighten out.
