Calhoun doesnt settle it separates just like MF both still need to be shaken . Also yellowing is caused by over heating not the plastic itself. The yellowing blazer is talking about has no bearing on the finished product. for example I can take any brand of plastic and put a few drops of black in it, shake it up and its a grayish tint, when you cook it it will come out as clear as water you will never know there was black colorant in it. this is one trick hand pourers have been doing for years on clear baits. dark blue works also.

its normal, but its not the plastic in most cases its the plastic bottles that it comes packaged in. some bottles we get from the bottle company shows it more yellow than others, it blew my mind a few tmes as well. due to a cap problem April has been getting differnt jugs from different places. its been more noticable in the last 2 months as far as the jugs go. However. I have has some tint of yellow come in the softener that sits on top of the drum before we mix it, when we get it shipped. it comes out clear when its mixed heated and poured, which is weird. I think that what happens is the volume of the softener in this case is magnified. the softener part isnt crystal clear but it also has heat stabilizer in it. Calhoun told me one time that the yellow tinit is due to the heat stabilizers put into the plastic. as heat stabilizer is not clear it has a yellow tint to it.

LOL thats funny, we used to water ski off a sheet of plywood and a lawn chair bolted to it. just horsing around at the lake,

Aint that the truth, Metal prices have gone through the roof. Try buying monel, inconell and a few other nickle alloys OMG. Last time I checked it was 98 bucks a pound for monel and while MY cusotmer was willing to pay for it we couldnt find any anywere and havent been able to find any for the last 6 months. as far as lead I think it also has alot to do with the newer EPA standards and like someone said a controlled substance. The insurance companies from what I heard is hitting the shops that use lead pretty hard with there scrap ( bigger auto repair and tire shops) they arent allowed to give it away any more) Don't know if its true or not, just what I heard. On a side note lead is in almost every metal that maching shops use in some quanity or another. copper is obvously as good as gold here in AZ and brass is too. with metal and gas going up just that alone will raise prices on about every product we use in society today.

its was the flamability problem. in there pure form that we got those 2 in a match would ignite them, they would burn like a laquar base paint. Granted mixed they wouldnt but we still had to put a sticker on them
-
That Candy apple and root beer were really cool colors, April didnt want to deal with them due to they were 2 colors that were hazzardous, she doesnt want the hassle with the post office/ ups etc. plus she would have to charge a hazzardous fee per the post office and ups to even ship 1 oz.

no it all reacts to heat, doesnt make any difference if its in the microwave a lee pot or a stove. dont make no difference how many reheats you do either. if you don't go above the temp that melts or deforms the glitter you wont have any problems. the reason the reheats are ruining glitter is becuase they are not reheating correctly and they put mor heat into than needed to reheat. The proper Way to reheat is to get a fresh batch of plastic and cook it, then break the stuff to be reheated into small chunks and stir it into till its mixed and melted. there is NO other way to correctly Reheat plastic. yes there are other ways we do it but its not correct and thats what causes the plastic to turn yellow/burn etc. All halo glitters at high temps will curl and bleed, halo glitters are not Alum based glitters that can use more heat. ( they are the plastic ones I forget the name of them oops).

Wax colors have been used for years, they are a little tricky to you and need to be extreamly thin chips or they wont melt properly. if you get a clump in the plastic take it out with a spoon. Wax colorants come in 2 forms a liquid oil and a solid block of wax. the wax works better than the oil, but the oil does work just doesnt desolve as well. When Bobby and I first started pouring we were using wax color chunks. that was in 2001? look for some posts on here from 2002-03 when this site first started you should find one of mine listing what brands and colors worked best.

Blue Fleck has nothing to due with the flakes really blue fleck is a berkley color name that is a mixture of red and black grape, heavy on the red. it produces like a plum color. you add blue flakes to it. blue fleck is almost the same as june bug but june bug is heavy on the black grape with green flakes. Black with blue flake is just black colorant with blue glitter if you do a search for berkleys blue fleck you will find the answer for the ratios. I might have the ratios mixed as I am not at the shop but sitting home with Phenomia, I am going to try to go in tomorrow at least for a few hours but the docs say I will just end up being admitted into the hospitol if I do.

the pigments separated and settled. you will neef to mix it pretty good. ok really good. get 2-4 1/4 nuts and drop it in the then shake the heck out of it off an one for a day or 2. one of the pigments in shock orange will settle more than the other and it will turn that way. after a long period of time , once you mix it , it should be fine

Its my misunderstanding then, sorry about that. I was doing the boomerang one. I will be at the shop all day sat and sunday. I will try to call you then, I have 2 things I have to get done this am thats going to tie me up pretty much most of the day. Delw

Riplip, WOW there may be a misunderstanding or we are on the wrong page and I appologize. Remember we were waiting for them as one customer I had made the snake for to get back with me if his mold poured ok as his mold had pretty much the same curve's as your. And I left a msg with him on tuesday to call me and he hasn't yet. you had the boomerang shaped one with the curl tails on it. Thats the one you wanted right away and held off on the other 2. Making the mold you want isnt the problem thats the easy part. Making it pour is the problem. If I make it exactly like you want it and it doesnt work than I get crap for it, Thats why I am trying to give you the best guess I can. if I make the mold and it doesnt work you still get charged for it and your pissed. if I make the mold then pour a sample and that doesnt work then I have to make another one (tweek it a bit so to speak)that add's alot to the cost. If I can get some info from my customer it would save you quite a few bucks and be close to what the aprox. price I told you. like I said before with out his input that mold is a crapshoot if it will pour or not. we never had too start over as I knew what we were doing from the very begining and explained that to you the very first time, The down time was the input from my snake customer. More complexed molds take more time, I have some that been quite a few months and others that go out in a few days to a week. I have one particular one that is a nightmare and its an easy one and its been here a long time. I also replied to your 3 pms and posts on april 11th then again on the 25th, yesterday you made a post and I replied with in an hour. I do answer the posts and pms on my forum pretty quick cause I am on the phone and can do so pretty quick. if you have tried to call this week, and left a msg. it hasnt been returned yet cause I am the only one here, Aprils been out since the weekend she was here for a few hours today. BTW I never heard you wanted the samples back, if you did you didnt say so yesterday. insinuating you won't get them back especially when you never asked for them is very uncool. sorry if there was a misunderstanding Delw

Zorn molds makes and sells the best injection machines, your looking at about 45k for a machine that shoots 2 colors. figure between 75-100 baits per 90 seconds ( you have to take into the consideration the size of the bait). molds range from 5,000-20,000 depending on the complexisity(sp).

those black and white ones are pretty cool looking, nice job.

Reds correct its not very friendly and extreamly expensive. Last time I got a quote on 1 gal its was around 120-150 per gallon min order is 55gal. and it took 6-10 weeks to be shipped. you also have to use powdered pigments for colorants, standard colors can not be used nor softener. To be honest its not justifibly worth buying Thanks Jerry, Hey red when you get a chance shoot me an email with that stuff on it that you sent last month. I lost every email from 2002 at the begining of this month. Delw

yeah were did you get that frog? I got one Identicle to it that I made for a guy, that was one of my new molds. Iv'e had the frog for 4-5 years. Only reason I ask cause I never seen it except once and I know the guy who designed it. I am just curious thats all.

I forgot to mention there are also irredesence (sp) glitters along with halographic.
-
Its called holographic glitter, there are many many colors and some really cool ones. we have it and some colors that arent online yet.

Tj I think its a colorado river stamp but not sure. My state AZ borders all where as ca only borders the waters of havasu and south. If my boat is done by the time this thing goes I will take it, 4-5 will fish comfortably its a 22 foot bass boat
-
Laughlin is also a Kick butt place. you dont need to rent a car from the airport as its right across the river and they will ferry you over. and I think that is free or used to be. Lake Mojave is 10-15 mins away, the river is right there and Lake Havasu is 1.5 hours away.or you can go via boat 30 mins-40 mins. Davis dam at the base of Lake mojave has some awsum striper fishing, and bass fishing on the river south by boat 10-15 mins is fantastic. there are also launch ramps around the river and one casino has there own ramp for customer use. Iv'e parked my boat at the casinos many many times and never had a problem. My electronics and all my fishing stuff was on the boat as well with a very cheap cover that the wind usually blew off. Colorado bell has extended park and the last 4 trips I parked my boat there. there is a 24hour guard shack there with a guard. you have to show them your key to get in. best of all NO DRIVING if your not going to the lake so no need to rent a car. whats even cooler is its cheaper than vegas and less crowded. Finding a place to park a boat in vegas could be a nightmare and the roads suck not to mention there freeway

It started a long time ago, this article and the people who wrote it are twisting the the real truth and using old info to get a new point across. Plastics used to be made with DOP'S in them at least thats what I think the term was( I posted it many many years ago) Todays Plastics don't use DOP's for the most part. some do. Countries around the world were the first ones to bann Plastics with DOPS mainly in europe. If I remember correctly DOPS are known to leak toxins into the water ways. Also this will be pretty hard to outlaw as plastic will always be avail. as long as the carpet industry keeps using it for the carpet backing. note: I am pretty sure its DOPS I forget the exact word, it was told too me by calhoun and anotther plastic supplier about 6-8 years ago and my memory is shot. I did make a post about it a long while ago in a thread about the lake in colorado that won't allow plastic baits, or it was about the lakes in NY or one of the north east states that does not allow plastic baits to be used.
-
All plastic is hardener and softener mixed in different formulas to achieve a desired hardness/softness. guys who are pouring salt water baits and swimbaits generally and worms ( not always) buy the hardest plastic then mix it down with softener. its easier to mix with softener than hardener. for example they buy 55gals of hard, then when the want to pour worms instead of saltwater stuff they add in x amount of softener. its eaiser than having 3 differnt plastics laying around and less confusing
-
we do it all the time. DONT USE FEDEX. when the cutomer doesnt pay his dties or tax's you get charged and its not cheap. depending on what country ups and post office are the only way to go. make sure you get insurance as certain counties tend to rip off people alot. this way it will protect you and your customer.
-
rick its the hardness fo the plastic. one is a super soft 536 used primarly out west drop shot and super soft baits medium swmbaits beavers and fliping baits worms as well hard 500 saltwater and some swimbaits it all depends how hard you want your baits will dictate what hardness of plastic to use
-
to keep the metal suspended more you pour a cooler plastic.your plastic has to be extreamly hot for it to sink. or you have a very big bait which will retain the heat for a while and it will sink. I havent found any difference in brilliance between the 2, but what I have found is the difference in brillians between the 6 makers of glitter. most of the glitters are made in india I thik its india its some forgein country. for example brand x and brand y sould be the same red in metal and be different brilliances likewise in the plastic glitters. yes you can it works best in an open mold as a mold like a stick bait will drag the glitters off the sides and push it all down. the other problem with doing this is the glitter will fall off the bait. which can be a good and unique thing if you think about it. as the glitter will look like scales coming off from an injured fish. I have stuff glitter in the hook pockers of flukes and bass asassines just to get that effect and see what happens. I can't fish a fluke worth a crap so I dont know if it really works or not. some of my customers have rolled there baits when the plastic is still hot in a salt and glitter mixture and some sprinkle it on open face molds when the biat is still cooling this will hold some glitter but let other glitter roll off when in the water. Might be somethig to play with for something different.
