  1. Owner hooks are the most expensive hooks out there. and the best In tournys thats all I use. I have switched to gamy's and was not happy with the results. the points nick up very easy, they bend and fish come off. with Owners fish dont come off very often, The hook set between the eyes takes pliers to come out etc etc. I went back to owner hooks this does not include dropshot hooks s rebarbs are the best then gamy's My personal opinion thats all.
  2. LMAO someone bought fast freddies place, good for him
  3. they are out there from 4.5" - 16" in full round
  4. The reason some major manufactures sink or sit with tails down is du to additives they put in there baits. I assume yours was just pure plastic only this is why it will stay straight or float. Nova is right on the money
  5. Just so you know David Reid Died last year. http://www.tackleunderground.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9888
  6. yes they are hollow, the shape of the knife to dip them is almost exactly like the bait itself. 2 dips in semi warm plastic and your done
  7. in a baby e style bait the 5" version a 3/8oz weight will get it to swim at 5-8 feet on a slow roll.
  8. Bama the whole point of mailing yourself a bait is only so someone else can't patent it, anyone can make it they just wont be able to patent it. as you have already designed it and its not patentable, nor can they sure you or anyone else that is making that bait. In my honest opinion I would say keep quiet about it. especially to your friends, make as many as you can and flood the market. that is the only way you can get it going . it will take companies 2 months-1 year to tool up for a production run. like mike says when you want to get it on the market you have to basically have it everywhere. ebay sales or one website just isnt going to do it. basically a media blitz.
  9. first you have to modify the pot. then there are a few different ways. some use hard lines some use hard lines that are heated. I built a press and it should be all automatic when I get done. I am just playing with it cause I have a few customers that use them and its easier for me to shoot there molds to see if they work, trouble shoot molds and make new molds etc. no one take this wrong, as I don't mean it to be mean. if you can't modify one of these pots or absolutely have no clue how they can work for injection DON'T do it. it will more than likely cause you harm. you need to have some back yard mechanical ingeniuity to figure this out. if your not mechanically inclined don't even think about doing this. Again I am not trying to be mean, but if you do something wrong you can hurt yourself very badly or worse hurt someone else. its just not worth it. Delw
  10. most guys are using the 10 quart, some are use the 25 quart for bigger baits. 10 quarts is more than enough for a pretty good size operation, and if you want to shoot a lot of different colors get a few 10 quart ones and you will have pleanty of plastic. some of the swirl baits and laminates that I have seen shot out of these are pretty cool also. One of my customers was shooting around 35lbs of pressure just playing, kinda crazy if you ask me and extreamly dangerous.
  11. the best and safest pressure cookers to use are all american pressure cookers, preston and th other ones are cheap and won't hold the pressure as good, not to mention they are made from plastic parts. all american are all aluminium they are made with heavy alum and have a thick metal top. they have a twist locking system and locking screws for the top. if anyone makes one always use a pressure relief valve set at 15psi max. I have a bunch of customers that have used them for years
  12. Jmik hit it right on the money. Becareful heating up molds you can warp them, and ruin them if the mold gets too hot. make sure they lay on a flat surface and dont get them too hot
  13. heres an easier way and cheaper way thats the way I have done it. cookie cutters. plastic or alum both work. the star one works for what I want and the bottom of the christmas tree base is almost Identicle
  14. me too those things were cool.
  15. theres a post floating around from like 2002-2003 were it explains how to use a a/c vaccum pump from harbor frieght ( like around 30 bucks) and do berkley trout worms those little things in the jar that are around 1/16 of an inch. there should be some pics also. about 1/16 of an inch with hot plastic in an alum mold, with a pop or silacon mold you might be able to get smaller due to they won't disipate heat as much.
  16. they use a cutter to cut the vtail, you can make a knife and put a v angle on it ( for the front of the tail) then when your done dipping them cut the v into it with scissors. those baits are the easy ones to dip, the ones pictured were the first ones I played with before the bass trix. if I remember right they were also out long before basstrix paddle tubes were. they were also the easiest to get ahold of. we used them for dropshotting. the tails are hollow
  17. April caught her moms kitchen on fire with pyrex. she was heating it right on the burner. Her and her mom had been doing it for years with no problems.when I saw them doing it thankgiving dinner I said not a good idea 5 mins later boom. if you set pyrex down on a cold surface or somethign taht has water on it it will explode, common sence needs to be used when working with glass. tempered glass are more forgiving than regualr glass.
  18. the only fish I can eat raw that I enjoy is tuna, shark the rest I am not really thrilled with. the shell fish to me is only good cooked. Sashimi is my favorite , sushi is so so Sashimi is a bed of rice with some hot mustard then a fillet of fresh fish. about a 1/4" thick , 3/4" wide and 3 inches long. Sushi is a log of rice rolled in sea grass with some hot mustard and a sliver of anything. the stuff they sell in the states is pure junk in my opinion as its not still alive when its cut, and you loose alot of flavor in my opinion. Earthworm , lake fork tackle sells them and they are in every store out west here. no body still uses them I love them
  19. you bring up something very good Kribman. steel is easier to cut than alum with shears. Alum is gummy speaking in sheetmetal sizes
  20. you don't know what your missing out nova, Jap. food is the best. I was born and raised in Japan lived there for 15 years untill dad retired from the navy
  21. use candle molds, you can get them as deep as you want them. machine shops will cost an arm and a leg for this. Candle molds are easy to find locally and on the internet. I posted a link a few years back, just do a search for candle molds
  22. I have a segmented one here that a guy in northen Ca sent me 3 years ago, looks pretty close ot it. he designed it. the front of the segmenst are more rounded on his version Delw
  23. Black jack you should look into those cnc routers, they have a higher RPM and are pretty strong. for lips and crank bait bodies alike. when you get into metals your talking a completely differnt ball game. for example a cnc router is great for wood and thin sheet metal, and the machine you linked its good for metal but would suck for wood wood tools vs metals tools are a completly different ball game. wood is less forgiving than metals and easier to work with. Metal cause's major vibration and you need a solid very solid machine IE WEIGHT and tourqe the machine that you linked I have heard lots about them, in a job shop enviroment they would be usless, however in a light duty enviroment and cutting what you want to do they would more than likely be fine. dont forget you will need cad cam software for 3d works. bobcad is ok if you have never used cadcam software before. word of warning there tech support sucks and they wont likely help you after you spend 2-4 k with them. they are more of a sell and run type company, basically you buy it your on your own no matter what the sales guy says. that being said bobcad has some awsum features that you wont find in other very high end software or it takes longer to use them in the high end softwares. if you do look into bobcad goto one of there paid seminairs its the best and only way to learn that program. a new user of cad-cam software will pick up BOBCad 100x faster than a use that has used mastercam/smartcam/surfcam for 15+ years.
  24. Your right on the money! I am looking at a mazak mill turn , I dont like mazaks that much but they seem to be pretty good. you forgot to mention that the rpms on most mill turn lathes are not near enough to cut crankbaits most have a limit on 3k-5k spindle speeds if I remember correctly. a crank bait would take approx 1-2 hours to make. in that you forgot the programming software and time to program a mill turn for a crank bait which by programming means is a very complex program on a mill turn. 250k for a machine 10-20k for decent software then a building to put it in and all the tooling and such. Lures and or molds wouldnt come close to paying for a machine like this. unless you can do $100+ and hour on this machine in finished products Even using a mill with a 4th and 5th axis attachment you would be wasting money on crankbaits.( I've done it for myself) There is always the right machine for a job and sometimes we tend to over kill the situation with bigger and better. If you guys ever get a chance to watch a show called "how its made" be sure to watch it, its on discovery channel, very interesting and it will give you ideas big time. there was a few shows that used copy mills, in all honesty that is the best way to go. then you get a drum sander and sand them down. the copy mill will rough them down pretty quick.
  25. Tightline the sand in the pot is more for keeping the plastic hot evenly. Cooking plastic would take a long time. the center of the plastic would be cooler and it should be stired to distibute the heat. The way I understand it is that people cook the plastic then pour it in the sand surrounded container. some have gas burners on the bottom and 1" of sand between the bottom and the container this heats up much faster. sand being cold when you dig under the surface is due to the overall average temp. like wise if you had 118º degree days and cool nights and dug a hole the sand would be warmer. your heating from the bottom unlike the sun which heats from the top. The reason sand is use is due to it can be packed tightly with little air pockets, anything with air pockets would release the heat instead of keeping it contained to were you want it.
