Wannabe. you know that fiberglass Idea is a pretty dang good one. it sticks to glass but it can be chipped off also. your local hardware store might sell some thin square sheets of fiber glass, then just take some resin and bond it to the glass. I got plenty here from restoring a boat ( plus there is a fiberglass retail store right across teh street)if I get some time in the near future I will give it a try. I need to get this boat done anyhow.

A standard key board with a number pad is approx 18-19 long. that not that big if the worm is not over 9/16" in dia. we have the diamond tails (full round ones)up to 16" long we found the dia just around 7/16 to be the most popular. I always thought the 10" diamond tail was a huge worm until I caught 12-16 inch bass on it. they seem to work beter in the summer. Delw

and it warps pretty bad at around 200-250 degrees We looked into building molds out of lexan, no go. there are other high temp products out there however, but they are very pricey.

Actually no, if you need to produce less than 5000-10000 stik baits a week its easier and cheaper to pour them by hand. same goes for any 2 piece mold that pours while closed. the only thing you need would be a hot pot that holds plastc. if you need to produce alot more than yes a injector is the way to go and that would be a zorn machine. The smaller injectors are nice just to play with but your not going to save any time or money( unless they have to be injected) your going to need lots of molds to feed a hand made injection system as they need to cool off. with 5 gallon sta-warm pots you can get by with about 20-30 molds to keep the cycle going. with a hand made injector your looking at 60+ molds to keep the cycle going.

Injecting is using Pressure to force hot plastic into a mold. Means of pressure is air pressure mostly. However you can also use a tube with a slip fit built into the bold like a push rod to shoot plastic into it. Cheap injection can be those sirygns from jans net craft ( if you use these be careful as the will melt at aorund 350 degrees, I do hve some customers that use them with great success however the wear welding glooves ( long ones) just incase. you can make your own from 300-500 and even up using a pressure pot. you can buy one from lurecraft and winesco (sp) from 3k-5k they are low pressure generally 12psi max Sta-Warm is coming out with them in a few months they will run around 2-3k as well. I think theres will be 18psi max ( has to do with osha regualtions) Zorn molds makes a nice system actually they have a few different ones they are the best in the business systems will run 15k-45k and beyond. th zorn system is the only one that will shoot multible colors of the ones listed. The molds in the Zorn machine are also watercooled and shoot at a very high temp. They can shoot 70+ baits and be colled in under 1 minute. injection is needed on some baits mainly cause some baits you just can pour.

Reeves you probably wouldn't be banned, you would just be called a racist like everyone else that believes American products should be made in America. &%$#& Mexico Delw

There really is a patent by ornimental design. reaction inovations used it on the sweet beaver bait
-
Brian thats a tricky one, but generally if its been produced before than patent date there is not much they can do about it. but its up to YOU to prove it not them. We get lots of baits from Japan and some of my customers run into the same problem. most are scare tactics. if you call the patent office those people are really helpful and can explain most. if its really tricky its best you talk to a lawyer as anyone including myselfs advice may or maynot get you in trouble. Also the patent office will only go so far as they cant say to much in depth cause it may be wrong info from the wording they get from you. patent by ornimental is a very vague patent and is a tricky one. also read everything reguarding that patent as sometimes they will show the whole bait but only a certain section in one part and the placement of that part is patented. I am guessing that reaction inovations or 3:16 sent you the letter? they like to use the ornimental patent alot. and they do send out lots of letters. Delw

yes anchors do pour a finer line... A lot of the guys that pour multiple colors pour the baits than throw them in the oven and or they pour them when the molds are on pancake griddles. this keeps the molds hot so the colors will blend smoother, otherwise you get that nasty blend line. Some have even gone as far as pouring while the mold is very hot then baking the mold and the bait in the over. this gives the best blends. but it does take time to do and unfortunately you have to have a ton of molds to make it worth your time.

OK with the exception of you I would love to see a video of someone/anyone doing that though and be able to get it with NO trimming work needed. for 99% of the people get a pouring pan
-
For alum molds del-mart molds bobstackle shack shawn collins Zorn molds or any machine shop that can do 3d cnc cad-cam and milling
-
What are you using to pour with? can you be more specific in where the problem is. you need to use a pouring pan or a 1 cup alum or stainless measuring cup. only fill the pouring cup 1/8-1/4 full so you get the pan almost at a 90º before the plastic comes out. They (most 1 piece molds) will not pour out of a pyrex or anchor cup, I don't care how good you are, you just can't get the fine lines like a pouring pan. Start from the belly then follow the leg repeat it for each leg.

There was a post early last year that someone coated them down in texas. Might try to do a search for either ceramic or teflon I know in that post ceramic was mentioned.

Some of the best ideas and best friends come of out so called Hi Jacked threads

I would say its more than that, that are real.probally more close to 3k and over , Ive been here since the beginning and have seen alot of names come and go. You have to remember some of these guys just don't like to talk but they like to read. they aren't reading just to steal someones secrets they arent on here just to take info in and not give it out. I have turned many guys onto this board that have been reading it from day 1 but just shy in nature, or they think there ideas will be laughed at. if people were worried about others stealing ideas they shouldn't be posting on a public board matter of fact they shouldn't be even telling friends In running a good board never scold people for reading and not participating its just not worth it and it kinda makes you look like a whiner. if you make it a private board so others can't see in you will just drive people off cause they think it is a clique. and those people may decide that this hobby just ain't worth it due to the nature of the people. bottom line people that want to speak up will and those who don't wont, nothing wrong either way Delw

The numbers are every time someone registers. wether it be spam registration or even people who re register. even if they are deleted that number is still used in VB if I remember correctly unless they fixed that in one of the newest versions. lets say one day I have 100 new members and 75 are spam members, I delete the 75 and it will still show the next member number as 101 not 26. you dont see the spam cause the spam catchers will usually pick them off but they can still register. hope that makes sence.

There are a few things to look into all of what Chris says and this. Colorants will Hard Settle/ pigment is very heavy and settles on the bottom very easily it also gets crusty hard on the bottom over time. My best guess thats that your pigment wasnt mixed in 100%. When doing colors like this its a must that you use a mixer of some sort as just shaking a one galln container just wont surfice. sence thay are in 1 gallon containers there is one slight problem for 99.9% of all the mixers and thats they just wont fit in most of the 1 gallon container hole. so save your plastic shake the heck out of it, turn it upside down for a day and shake it then right side up for a day and shake it. you can put steel ball bearings in it that will help beat up the pigments. then get a 1 gallon container that a small squire mixer will fit in( some of the OJ containers have a bigger opening. but some people are using anti freeze type containers in the 1 and 2 gallon size.) Blues are heavier that greens and reds and yellows, white is a very heavy pigment. anything with pearl in it is also very heavy.

Good point Mike. as far as action goes no one is right or wrong on what action is better than another action. why people seem to say that bait has a better action then a copy or even a org. is beyond me when there is really no such thing. Look at a crankbait for example. some have a slow wiggle some have a fast wiggle is one better action than the other? NOPE it all depends on the circumstance's in which you fish which calls for the action to be right or wrong. The best way I ever fished a Basstrix bait was on the bottom dead sticking it as a carolina rig. there is NO action per say when its just sitting there. guys who drop shot will understand, sometimes you need to shake the heck out of it and sometimes you need to dead stick it. whats nice about making your own baits is you can use different hardness of plastics to give it different "actions" in aug sept and oct I tend to catch more fish with a faster bait, in late nov dec jan I catch more fish dead sticking a bait or reeling it very slowly were it barely moves. then even sometimes you want the tail to move as fast as it can but at a very slow pace ( like in dirty water). now if you think about it does this companies baits work better than that companies baits? over all throughout the year probably not for one particular time maybe so. Another good example is the swimming senko and the reaction inovations clone to the swimming senko ( sorry the name slipped my mind) when you burn them in I mean burn them in on 6.1:1 and 7.4:1 reels as fast as you can they are awsum baits, doing that other times of the year your lucky to catch 2 fish on them, however c rigging them in the summer nights produces some really big fish. Bottom line no one makes clone thats any better or worse than anyone else.

I really can't tell by the feel nor smell even the texture. I am guessing it is the cheapest plastic money can buy, reason being they are pouring the baits in mexico and shipping the supplies to mexico is a pain in the butt and costly. some people even fill up 5 gal gas cans with plastic and take it across the boarder. vodkaman thats why sometimes its much better to use silicon. you can pour some very fine lines in silicon. Alum tends to cool the baits quickly on hand pours. the only way it might have a chance to pour is because of the body, the large body will keep the plastic hotter for a longer time and sometimes that helps to get those tiny legs filled ( the body works kinda like an over so to speak) both materials have there advantages and disadvantages for making molds.
-
Oh I could make one, I already played with programming it a while ago ( before the bass trix stuff) but never cut it or even came close, just didnt think it was justifiable for hand pourers. making it is not the problem its the pouring part that is the problem. I have a bag of them here. Crap now I can't find them( was typeing and went to look for them). these are the ones that have the tail tucked under the back part of body correct? then the other problem lies in the cost to make it. it wouldn't be a standard 2 piece mold it would be a 3 maybe 4 piece mold with 2 of those piece's hard pinned to the 2 movable pieces. Basically you would have a standard 2 piece mold and some stuff pinned to it, would have to cut 4 separate pieces then pin one to one side and the other to the other side. I always like a challenge to maybe I will play with it when things settle down a bit.

Here is a pic of what I think your looking for as far as the hook pocket and how its held. this is just for this particular hook size and shape. Hooks are very precise any more due to the way they are made. Especially hooks like Owner and Gamy's. They don't vary in thickness more than .001 from lot to lot as least that has be my experience. This is extreamly nice for the guys who want molds built to hold a hook precisely and perfectly centered. There is a down fall to this however. and that is if you change the hook style or size you have to re machine the hook pocket to hold the new style of hook. there are a few ways to do it so you don't have to send it back to a machine shop to have them re cut the mold. take a dremle tool and cut out the hook pocket for the new hook to fit. then fill it with an epoxy and stick a coated hook ( with some type of oil so it doesn't stick) in the old cut out. then take something flat and lay it on top. its best to use both halves of the mold with a piece of wax paper in between so any mess will not stick both your molds together. On one of my customers has customers that want really big hooks in the same mold and also smaller ones , plus he wanted to offer different brands to his baits). I designed a hook pocket insert that would except different hooks. while that is kinda expensive ( more than just cutting your hook pocket it was able to have him make baits using a gamy 6/0 hook or a owner 5 /0 hook. Fishermen all have there favorite hook they like to use, he did say he sells quit a few with owner hooks but does have 2 stores that only want gamy hooks. this way he has an option for his customers.

Thats a tough one, you would probably have to make that one on your own out of silicon. Silicon will allow you to pour smaller lines like the feet and such. also the nice thing about silicon is that you can bend it to get the bait out after its poured with out ripping the bait. there are some good benifits to silicon molds and this bait would be one of them. it would have to be a 2 piece mold also.

Green pumpkin also has a tad of flo yellow or chartruse in it, I have noticed that when we get it from our supplier and its been sitting before we mix it all up. some of the colors we buy from our supplier has some very unusual colors in it to create it.
