  1. I use 'Regal' plated blades and I think they are worth the cost. I also use brass and copper when I want some metalic flash when gold is too bright. Silver is much brighter than nickle and has a greater 'radius of attraction'. Jed Davis who owned Pen-Tac spinner components wouldn't use nickle as an underplating for genuine silver because it would reduce the brightness. Hagens silver plated blades have a nickle underplate, you can check with a magnet.
  2. Hey Big Splash, you using bass gear for trout? Spinnerbaits & pink worms? The worms are slowly catching on here in ON, but most still use roe. Almost no one uses sp.bts. for trout here, but I've caught browns, bows, & chinnys while trying for pike in Lake O. I thought using spinnerbaits for trout was strange at first, but I saw an ad in a 1976 Fishing Facts for Lindy Squirrel Spins, Al Lindner was using them for "rainbows, browns, & steelies". Good luck with your sp.bts..
  3. Here is a link to the article http://www.midwestbasstournaments.com/articleflukerreelupgrade.htm
  4. Read Red-g8r's tutorial about making a mold using a tube of plain silicone caulk, water and Legos.
  5. If your the type that likes slammed Honda Civic's, www.japantackle.com has some tuning parts for Shimano & Daiwa. Hatteras Outfitters also has Abu upgrade parts listed under 'reel candy'.
  6. OK maybe a bit more, but an old timer told me that he uses a stainless steel coffee pot warmer to melt lead. I've never tried it but he assures me that it gets hot enough to melt lead. He suggested to look for a used one at yard sales, Sally Ann, Goodwill, etc. These warmers are the ones you see at restaurants, and have a hollow/bowl were you can put the lead.
  7. I made some marabou tailed tubes by glueing marabou to a strip of newspaper and wrapping it around an aluminum rod. I used washable stick glue (UHHU sp?) and the paper to temporarily hold the feathers to the dipping tube. The butt ends of the marabou must project beyond the edge of the paper 1/4" so that they get covered by the plastic. Only dip up to the paper but not the paper itself. After dipping, wash the paper and glue off with warm water. This method take too long, so if you could suggest a faster way, please do.
  8. Dear Mr. G8r You have created a great website and I look forward to visiting often.
