  1. I have talked to Shortys, they don't know of anything.
  2. I was told this hook is. Gamakatsu 6/0 #68416 I am looking for a similar hook that is a little longer. any Ideas? thanks,
  3. Thanks for that info. that helps me make up my mind if I want to try it. Smell/fumes is number one for me.
  4. what consistency is this, water or syrup or were in-between? You say you can handle it in an hour. what would you guess when jigs could be packaged?
  5. go to the irs website and fill out the Form 637 application. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f637.pdf You will need a FEIN number first, you do that at the irs website. That is how you get a form 637. Once you do those 2 things the irs will contact you for the rest, which is a questionnaire that you have to fill out which is a lot of questions about your fishing tackle manufacturing business and then a visit from the irs agent. It is not a big deal, maybe intimidating, but not difficult. I don't understand the 2nd question. Form 637 has nothing to do with state tax of any kind. Form 637 has nothing to do with Federal income tax.
  6. Open this link or copy and paste in your browser. Read the 2nd page, 3rd or 4th paragraph down http://extra.mdc.mo.gov/documents/area_brochures/8930.pdf this is a fish hatchery 5 miles from me that 75% of the money came from Federal excise tax to build this. they stock the lakes in Missouri with fish raised here. I know they raise hybrids. the rate at which the money is given to the states is based on how many permits they sell and how many acres of fishable waters.
  7. If you don't have a Form 637 nobody is going to charge you 10% on the sale of your product. If you don't have a Form 637, you will have to pay 10% when you buy your components if you buy from a supplier that collects Federal Excise tax. Yes and No , the Form 637 allows you to buy components tax free IF the store has a Form 637, most likely a retail store does not because the tax is paid at the manufacturer level, that is where is supposed to be paid. If you adding to the component like painting or assembling, then you are a manufacturer. then If you sell at retail, you have to pay 10% of your selling price. If you have established wholesale pricing, and regularly sell your product at this wholesale price, then when you sell at retail you only have to pay 10% of you wholesale price , not retail.
  8. If I buy spinner baits, swivels, split rings, skirts and blades from you, assemble them and sell them as a spinner bait I owe 10% of the total selling price, just like sales tax, you add it to the total selling price. If the IRS comes to me and I tell him the tax has been paid on the items I purchased, that won't make a difference, I still owe 10% of the total selling price. Now if I am going to assemble/manufacture to resell I won't buy from a supplier that has the tax figured in because that is what the Form 637 Registration is for it to buy without the FET because I am going to collect/pay it when I sell it.
  9. that makes the most sense to me. Retail businesses are already set up to collect sales tax. I think it would generate a lot more revenue for the cause. So who is going to get it changed? Maybe that is a job for the American Sport Fishing Association
  10. FET is used by the states to promote fishing.
  11. Hagens bought part of Battlefield but I heard Cast bought the stamping stuff for the blades.
  12. If someone wants to know more about Federal Excise Tax, do a search on this forum for "excise" and you will find lots of info. Oh Salty you make me laugh. I did a search on Free Good Advice and found a link to a book at Amazon titled "Good Advice from Bad People: Selected Wisdom from Murderers, Stock Swindlers, and Lance Armstrong" Your just not bad or crooked enough to give good advice. unless you ride a bicycle.
  13. I got em at Ace hardware. Just little disc shape magnets, I just milled a hole and stuck it in. You could probably use a drill press,
  14. this is what I did to help hold the wires, the dark round circle is a magnet. this helps hole the wire.
  15. I talked to a guy one time that made fishing lures and he said they made their own multi strand weed guards. they would count out so many strands and had a fixture of some sort that held them together while they glued them in the head. At the time I didn't think much about it.. Does anyone do something like that? I was wanting to buy some plastic strands, longer than weed guards, for another project I am working on. Does anyone know what kind of plastic it is that they use for weed guards? I have found some plastic in a roll, but the stuff they use is straight.
  16. if it is handy, a pic of the hook in the mold, not poured and a pic of the problem would be helpful.
  17. I will take a guess, lead is not hot enough. Maybe the way you pour it in, I believe the angle it goes in can make a difference, the speed it goes in could make a difference. The size of cavity in relation to the size or diameter of the hook, I bet it pours fine without a hook?
  18. Why would you spend so much money on a boat, fishing pole, tackle, gas, etc... to catch a fish when you can buy them a whole lot cheaper in the store already cleaned?

I have had good luck with JB weld. Make sure the aluminum is clean. don't try to sand too soon, make sure it is fully cured.
