    Lead hazards

I agree with everything rsinyard said. Also wash you hands before you eat. Lead poisoning comes from ingestion. If you have been handling lead, change you cloths take a shower before picking up small kids. They are more susceptible to lead poisoning than adults.
  2. I bought one about 6 months ago. I returned it because I wanted to use it to measure the temp of my lead and it would not work. I called the company and it had somthing to do with the surface of the lead, mainly the color. Then I tried it on my vulcanizer and the surface of it was silver color like the lead. The guy at the company of the temp gun said if i painted the surface of the vulcanizer brown it would be more acurate. I really wanted it to work but it wouldn't work for me.
  3. Check out the 91751 or 91750 or 91715 Mustad hook.
  4. If you have a manufacturer make some jigs for you and they are ready to sell when you receive them, then this manufacturer will collect the excise tax. If you furnish him everything that is needed to make the jigs, hooks, lead, etc.. and say it is your private design and you own the molds to make this jig, then I think this is saying that you are the manufacturer and you will collect the excise tax on the sale of your product
  5. Mustad makes a 91768BLN 28 degree I went to Google and typed in 91768bln and got several hits. Lurecraft had a pic of this hook in 3/0.
  6. I'm assuming that you are doing this for business of making and selling tackle.
  7. http://www.asafishing.org/asa/images/government/FieldDirective.pdf Read this on page 4
  8. http://mdc.mo.gov/areas/hatchery/lostvalley/ This is a link to a fish hatchery that I live about 5 miles from. If you read this it tells how much of the money spent to build the hatchery came from excise tax. The fish they raise is used to stock lakes in the midwest. This is a quote from the Warsaw web site:
  9. First you have to get a Federal ID number. Call the IRS and they will help you with this. http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=102767,00.html After you have been issused a Federal ID number, then fill out an Application for Registration, Form 637. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f637.pdf After you get you Form 637 approved. Then you furnish this to compainies that also have this same Form 637 registration,(when I say "same" I don't mean that there are different forms, either you have one or you don't) and at your request you can purchase products without excise tax. Some compaines that sell lure making supplies may not have this form 637 and have paid the exceis tax form their supplier. You only pay tax on things used to catch fish. A Do-It mold does not catch fish. The jigs you make do. You owe Uncle Sam $1. It is 10% of the sale price. No tax on the shipping unless it is included in the sale price. If you sell you product for $100 you owe $10 excise tax. If you sell the same product for $90 plus $10 for shipping, you owe $9 excise tax. This is a sales tax not income tax. You file a 720 form and pay excise tax quarterly. 10% of total sales.
  10. This is a small description of what the excise tax is for.
  11. This a manufacturer's tax. The tax is to be collected at the manufacturers level, only paid 1 time. This is the IRS link: http://www.irs.gov/publications/p510/ch05.html#d0e6781 This is another source of information: http://www.asafishing.org/asa/government/excise_tax.html
  12. On the videos it will take a long time for them to download before they will play. I looked at your other post about the instructions, I will look at what I have and if it is different I will make a copy to you.
  13. I have a bender but not very experienced. Did you get any instructions with the former? The instructions are pretty basic. I have a copy if you need them. On there web site they have a video of some basic bends. http://www.hagensfish.com/

    Tin Heads

Do a search on "non-ferous metal". Tin is "lead-free" solder. This might give you some better hits. Don't be supprised if it cost $10 a lb or more. If it is less, I would say its a bargin. If you want to buy 500lbs or more, the price would be aroud $7 or $8.

    Tin Heads

I have poured Tin in do-molds and it seems to pour the same as Lead. It melts at a lower temp.
  16. I think the mighty mites are lead free and if they are the metal will melt at 240 degrees. The paint is most likely vinyl with epoxy over the top.
  17. I made 2 molds out of RTV a while back and poured several parts with Tin and it dosen't look like it hurt the mold any. You have to let the mold set for 20 or 30 seconds before you can open the mold.
  18. You will have to try MEK or MIBK or paint stripper. These are nasty chemicals! My daughter uses nail polish remover, that is Acetone. Care if I ask why you wanted to remove the paint off of those?
  19. I make a lot of jigs with EC 570 in sizes smaller that #1/0. They are a light jig hook. They are very similiar to Mustad 32756 and VMC 9147BZ. VMC has changed some of their hooks. The barb is not as big as they used to be, or not as big as the Mustad or Eagle Claw. This may or may not make a difference but the pictures on your link look slightly different than 570's in my opinion. Look at the #4 hook and the length of the eylet. Then look at the #4 on Do-It's Web site. Here is a link at Do-Molds site that has a better picture of the hooks. http://www.do-itmolds.com/products/accessories.php?UID=20070119092018216.74.218.3&category=hooks I sell a lot of Mustads 32756 in 1/0, 2/0, 3/0 for walleye jigs. My customer only wants Mustad hooks. I also have those sizes in Eagle Claw and they seem to be as good as the Mustads. Just my opinion.
  20. I have a 10 gal air compresser. I emty the water out of it sometimes and it accumulates a lot. Maybe 1/2 gallon a month, that is a wild guess. I have pvc air lines. Where it comes out of the compressor to the pvc I have a "T", one end is pointing down and I have a shut off there. My line goes up to the ceiling to route to another part of my shop. At the shut off I use as a "trap". It accumlates small amount of water and I open the shut off to get rid of the water. About 15 feet away by way of pvc air line, I have places to plug air lines in and have another "T" with the shut off pointing down to release water there also. This is where I have my store bought aire trap. It has never had any water, but I do have at my "T". This is where I plugged in the air supply for my fluid bed, 12" x 16". I was having a lot of trouble and called where I bought the thing and they said, "Oh, you don't have an air dryer?, Well that could be your problem." So I bought a desicant dryer. It didn't help my problem and my problem was not moisture in the air. I spray paint a lot, vinyl and 2 part epoxy, and I don't run the air through the dryer (I save it for the powder paint), and have never had any problems. On the dryer it has these dessecant beads, they are white but have blue beads throughout and when the blue beads turn red, then they are full of moisture. I put them on a cookie sheet and bake at 100 degress for about 2 hours. They turn blue again.
  21. I melt the lead off of the bad pours. I dip in 800 degree temp lead for about 3 to 4 seconds. I am guessing that the temp of the hook doesn't get much over 150 degrees. So now I wondering , when I powder paint jigs I bake them at 350 to 400 degrees for 10 minuets.
  22. http://www.mustad.no/products/index_hooks.php This is a link for the Mustad web page. If you click on the hooks you are looking for, like Ultrapoint, then click on the hook number, that will take you to the hook. Then read at the bottom, it tells you how to print a page to get an actual print of the hook. This is very helpful to me on sizing hooks.
