  1. Northbassman, I use worm oil, because it gives the bait a shiny appearance and keeps the baits from sticking together. I also use some scent on the baits. The oil and scent do wash off, but I believe this is more natural than salt. I have never seen oil and salt mixed together, but there are probably as many ideas on this subject as there are bait makers.
  2. That's a real good question. I always check the number to see if any have been added. I like to check out new colors with about 2 oz of plastic to see if it might be just what I have been looking for. Trouble is, what I think is great, the bass don't always agree with Cal
  3. Does anyone know what is in worm oil? Or is it a deep dark secret that only the shadow knows? Cal
  4. I don't build many lead baits any more, but Do-it lists the mold on their website. You can order direct from them. www.do-itmolds.com Good luck Cal
  5. Thanks for the info Woodsac. It is way out of my league too. Cal
  6. I just crawled under a rock and pulled it over me. Gator's got a point. But, I do think he should have picked a better name for a dynamite bait. Thats just my opinion. I hope I didn't hurt anyone's feelings. It was never my intention. Cal
  7. I have seen color swirls like orange/crawfish, black/blue in senko type baits, worms, and brush baby style baits. Does anyone know how those colors are swirled? It has stumped me. Thanks Cal
  8. How ridiculous to call a great bait flapjack. An insult if I ever heard one. Cal
  9. Mix the water putty in a large plastic cup and then pour into pain you are using to make the mold in. That works best for me, if I am not using the blender. Go ahead and use the blender, she will never know!!! It cleans up real easy. Cal
  10. Promise not to tell my wife, but I use her blender to mix the water putty. Just try not to get much air in the mix, or you will have bubbles instead of lumps (LOL) Cal
  11. Lurecraft has one that is fair. Just be sure to put plenty of worm oil on it before you cut the tails. Cal
  12. I found it about as useful as mammaries on a boar hog! It takes too long to heat up, and it cools before you get it out of the gun. However, if you can make it work, I sure would be interested in knowing how. Cal
  13. My nephew really likes garlic in his baits. I bought some Lure Craft and it was so strong, I told him he would have to pour his own baits when I wasn't there. Made me sicker than a dog!!! Cal
  14. I received my baits today!!!! All of you have some really cool looking baits, and quite a variety I might say. This swap not only gives each of us some new lures, but some new color and style ideas as well. I appreciate the effort that each person has put into this swap, especially deadly streamer! Bronchitis turned to pneumonia. I am glad I finished the baits when I did! Sorry for my shaky pouring Cal[/i]
  15. Lure Craft makes several frogs and even a mouse type bait. Another mold that they have is the sluggo type bait or Bass Assassin type baits. Other places like Del-mart and Bob's tackleshop have those as well in aluminum molds that last much longer than Lure Craft molds. Hope this helps. Cal
  16. I add scent just before pouring. It keeps you from cooking the scent and changing it. Since I started adding scent to the worms, my brother doesn't bite of a piece to shorten it Cal
  17. Did you shake the can well? Mine is from Big W. I set mine out in the sun for several hours between coats. It's running in the upper 90's here. I did some last winter, and it did take a while to dry. When dry it gives a real high gloss finish to the baits. If it will take the heat of an engine it should take what we can dish out on plastic. Cal
  18. In reply to Bass8Baits I have not poured vein all the way to the end. Paddle tail is fairly thin and I don't think I can get it. I tried pouring tail on ribbontail worms, but they were too wide and too flat to look good. Maybe someone can tell us how to do that. Cal
  19. This is my first real succesful attempt at veins. It is a copper vein in a smoke worm. Is this good enough? Any criticism would be appreciated. I placed 3 together to make the veins show up. Thanks Cal
  20. The engine paint is in a spray can. You can get it at any auto store or even the infamous Big W store. The color I get is blue, but I think it may come in other colors. It does get hard and stay that way. It seems durable to me. Calvin
  21. I use the engine paint as well. It can stand the heat and gives the baits a real glossy appearance. I try to use 3 light coats instead of 1 heavy coat. Calvin
  22. Big Z, how flexible are the legs on the hellhound? Do they give it much action? The bait looks awesome. I also like that 6 inch worm you designed. Gotta have one!!! Cal
  23. Big Z, my wife came through when I was looking at the picture of your new baits. She wants to know what the circular background was? She doesn't normally look over my shoulder for fear of it being a dead deer, hog, etc. Thanks, Cal
  24. How about a picture of Big Z's 6 inch worm he designed? I bet it is interesting. Cal
