Thanks for a repost of the tutorial. I am just starting to make wooden baits. I wonder if a tutorial section could be set up to place this in?
Thanks again
I think you first crank is great!! I am going to start my first one soon. I hope it comes out half as good as that one.
I also really appreciate TU. Maybe it should be Tackle University
I had never poured soft plastics until I joined here. It has saved me a lot of trial and error as well as a lot of money. I try to pass on what I have learned.
Hats off to Jerry for the board and hats off to the guys that aren't too busy to help someone!!
Well, I have an answer. Not sure how cost effective it is, but it is an answer. I have used a product called "Scenic Sand". It was left over from when the wife was making crafts with grandkids. It comes in bunches of colors and is made in Marshall, TX. They will sell in 1 or 5 lb bags last time I asked. I liked the way it made the sticks look. They were much more translucent. I only make baits for myself and my family and friends, so it really isn't feasable to stock a bunch of colors for a few hundred sticks a year. Hope this helps.
I don't know whether it will work or not, but I can tell you that MOST baby powder is primarily corn starch. If I had to guess, and it is only a guess, I would say it would scorch pretty bad.
Hope this helps a little
Thanks for all of the information George. I can't wait to start playing with the airbrush. What about blades? Do you powder paint them first? Do you put clear powder on them? Thanks again, and if you are down this way, stop in and see me.
I received a badger 175 airbrush and a load of createx paint for Christmas. I want to add some color to my powder painted jigs and spinnerbaits and blades. Will the createx stick to the powder paint? If so, should I put a sealer on top? If a sealer, should it be sprayed or dipped? What kind of sealer? I know you airbrush gurus can set me straight.
Thanks
My suggestion is to get a kit from Lurecraft, Del, or someone else. You could even put a kit together with a 3 or 4 Lurecraft molds with some of the colors that YOU know that YOU like to use. I would get more than one mold, because your going to get tired of pouring the same one pretty quick. A jar or two of glitter of your choice would be nice too.
If you need some color ideas, let me know. I think I can put together a list of 6 or 7 "gotta have" colors.
Hey Jigfisherman, I like that. Did you modify the mold, or did you fit the screw in after the jig was molded? If that is a fair question. I was thinking about making screws to go in a weedless jig mold. Any helpful ideas would be appreciated.
Here is the way I do Tequilla Sunrise
Use a dark smoke for the top of this bait, about 6 drops LC Black for 2 oz of plastisol
The bottom of the bait is
4 oz plastisol
LC Strawberry 6 drops (could substitute some red if you don't have strawberrry)
Blue Hi-lite powder 1/8 tsp.
Hope this helps.
Anyone else fishing Berkley Blade Dancer? I caught 5 bass from 3 to 5 1/2 pounds on this lure the first trip out. First cast I caught a fish on this lure. It has a really wild action on the fall or the retrieve.
Is there anyone on TU making anything like this? It shouldn't be hard to make a mold of the soft plastic body. The spoon part might be another story.
I saw a good friendship broken over a bottle of spike-it. The guest in this incident kept spilling spike-it on the upholstry of the boat. After the second day of this, the owner of the boat told his guest to put that *!@(* stuff back in the tackle box and don't get it out again!
I guess what I am trying to say, is don't get that on your buddy's boat, or he may not be your buddy any more.
