  1. I do not know about the Guru thing But I do enjoy making baits and catching fish on the baits that I make. This is what I am talking about as now you can develop a repore with someone that has introduced themself. I was not picking on any of the new members as this is something that I have had on the back burner for some time Awesome!!
  2. Been here since the begining and have always shared info to anyone who has ever asked, but how about if you are a new member a small intro about yourself, Location, age, hobbyist, business etc. Then once things are rolling maybe spread the wealth and contribute something back to the site. Way to many takers not enough givers!! Sorry about my rant. JMHO
  3. I would say without a doubt Dale is right, It most definetly is a Zoom Bait, Ed Chambers has more baits in his arsenal than anyone I know in the business. He makes baits for his pro-staff guys that the normal everyday fisherman has never seen.
  4. For years I have always just dotted the spot with round piece of steel stock, as of late I have started spraying the dot and to be honest I think the sprayed dot looks more realistic
  5. is the paint chipping off as well because if it is then there is an incompatability issue. You might try using Bulldog Adhesion Promoter or similar product on the plastic bait before you prime it. If just the clear is chipping off I would follow Rivermans direction and try the laquer product
  6. Looks pretty straightfoward Clear spook (see attached picture with either candy colors{transparent}or a dye) the pattern is printed on the original clear spook

    Dude that is wicked!!!!
  8. Ok, I have been following your threads for a while concerning the deathroll and other various details concerning baits and believe me I have learned quite a few things although much of the technical jargon is way above my limited technical experience. My question is concerning the position of the line-tie on a lure and how closely it is positioned to the placement of the the lip. What will the outcome of the lures action be if the line tie is actually below the centerline of the bait and very close to the placement of the lip versus the the line tie being placed further away from the lip but inline with the center of the bait. Many of the shallow divers I have examined exhibit a line tie directly on top of the lip. I am just looking for your expertise as to why this may have been done with certain wooden lures such as the original big O
  9. If you are worried about your fingers and the router table why not lay out your baits in a similiar fashion as this then cut the line of baits out with the scroll saw then router the entire line of baits then cut apart then you would just have a very small section to freehand on each individual blank
  10. SJ, Thanks for the compliments!! That is exactly what I was going for, this way ther are no surprises on either end of the business!
  11. Yep, Nice baits great builder have a few that are real arse kickers, He learned the ropes from Fred Young
  12. I have been researching alot of different manufacturers both old and new and was wondering what you all thought on the subject of eye placement, I have always placed the eyes on the topside of the lure towards the nose, but have obseved a trend in the small hand made Japanese manufacturers to put the eyes on the side of the bait, to me this makes more sense as if you look at any baitfish, shad, herring, sunfish species they all have one eye on each side of their body, any thoughts or comments welcomed!!
  13. Well guys not real impressed with the new Do-it Shakey head mold, poured a bunch today and the seems to be alot of flashing and the insert on about 10 of the 100 pours was loose. As far as you guys that had custom molds made I would not sweat it as this mold is definetly not for manufacturing, Overall for the guy tinkering in the garage and wanting to pour some for personal use then the mold is ok!! Will post some pics tomorrow!!
  14. PB those are Gulp cranks made by Jim Harter in South Carolina. Those particular baits have accounted for numerous Tourney wins for me over the past 10 years
  15. http://www.dixieart.com/Auto_Air_Series_4400.html Flair Teal Purple It is the shape of the pigment that gives the flip/flop and the shape of the painted item
  16. If I insulted your intelligence I apoligize, that is the skeptic in me, been in this business in one way or another since 1993, seen lots of fads and hype come and go, does that make me an expert I would say no, but it does give me some insight into what goes on in the industry. Because LC posted some pics of a guy applying some wet squid skin to a plastic lure body, and then dipping it in a can of something is not proof enough for me.(Ever look at a real skin fish mount after a couple of years?) So being the skeptic I ordered some and will certainly report my findings here on this board. If I am wrong I will be the first to admit it. As far as being 3 dimensional, you highly underestimate the abilities of many of the highly skilled painters that frequent this board(Myself Not Included). There are many here that have the ability and know how to replicate any baitfish that swims and craps in the water. My posts were not a personal attack on you or LC, just my casual observations. Lucky Craft already makes great baits no need for the hype. You have your opinion I have mine. That is what makes this site a great place to be!! "Hype is the awkward and desperate attempt to convince journalists that what you've made is worth the misery of having to review it.” Federico Fellini
  17. RJ, I don't think I nor anyone else is denouncing LC baits. I have a whole box of them that I throw when that is what the fish are eating. I don't think there are any builders who frequent this site that are doing as well as LC or even try to compete with them. The whole issue is marketing hype remotely similar to Strike King's Sexy Shad. Joe Pro the professional says he killed the fish on X bait Joe Blow the average fisherman says I need that bait because it will help me catch fish like Joe Pro. Same thing goes for cost analysis, some special new process that noone is doing right now, well, mark up the price. As long as the major players in the business keep doing what they are doing there will be a place like this and builders like us carving out our own little niche
  18. They will be in paint by the begining of next week !! Got Ya Covered!!
  19. Sure do, some real nice baits, I remember reading somewhere that Fred Young(Big O fame) showed him the ropes on crankbaitmaking 101. I have a few of his baits (big O style) and they are sweet!!! Nice wobble, nice paint , nice finish, Put some fish in the well with them too!!
  20. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that it is not real skin underneath the clearcoat as this would totally mess up any clearcoat with the moisture trapped between the plastic body and the clearcoat. More than likely it is a picture of whatever type of baitfish/prey that has been super-imposed onto the surface of the bait. Guys have been doing that here for quite some time. I think Husky or Fatfingers did a tutorial on how it can be accomplished with an inkjet printer and tissue paper. Tom Mann did this back in the 80's on his crankbaits and the pogoshad. Nothing new as far as I am concerned. Just some hype to jack up the price of a bait that is mass produced.
  21. BobP, Ya got that one right!! Sweet looking Topwater my friend!!
  22. Dean, How are you applying the D.N. clear?? I have a quart of the stuff that I have used for spinnerbait blades but have not tried it on many hardbaits
