  1. Bob P is correct!! The wooden sammy is a knockoff off the Balsa Pro. It is an inferior bait to the original and in my opinion not worth the money. I have one of the originals and it is thru wire and is a true work of art. The wooden sammy is not even a close second. I got yelled at by some of the regulars here for posting the site where the diagrams were located on Isao Yamaoka's site. He provided the diagram so that anyone could copy the bait. I made a bunch for personal use and for friends. The baits glide side to side much easier than the sammy I will see if I can dig up the site or my drawings
  2. I'm with Jed on this one who cares about the stars, I dig the comments wheter they be good or bad!!
  3. Yo Bro lighten up!!!!, Rook and everyone else are kidding around. Someone PM'ed him(Maverick) about painting his baits. As far as sharing info that is what this site is all about, No one was arguing about who developed what color. We were just conversing in an open forum about the lack of ingenuity of a Major manufacturer and that pretty much everyone has their own version of that color. Pull up a chair and start reading to get some insight into what takes place here. I think that you will find it is a pretty friendly place. If not there is a simple solution for that as well! 4. I am not sure what type of saw blade you have or what type of circuit board you are using but I stack my lip pieces (6 High) and cut them out on the bandsaw and then shape them with a sander. I am using .040 thickness. I have seen cranks(handmade lexan, circuit board and major manufacturers baits)that were used cranking rip-rap all day and were worn down to nubs. I' will see if I can find the pic of the bait he emailed me before he mailed it.
  5. Sorry, search this on ebay NewTom Mann Model #79 Brown Crayfish fishing lure

  7. Amen Dean had someone return a bait to me that had a coffin bill when it started out, got it back and it was completly rounded off still ran fine but he wanted me to put a new bill in it for him, would have been easier to build him a new bait!!

    Craws

    Nice job Sterling!!
  9. It was a cheap attempt to humor most of the regulars here on the site. If you were offended I am sorry. For the record that particular pattern has been around for many years, take a look at a BPS catalog and you will find that most crankbait/jerkbait manufacturers have their own version of the Luckycraft color Chartreuse Shad. Strike king is blowing smoke up the everyday angler's butts to get them to buy this hot new color that KVD came up with. If anyone knows anything about KVD he did the same type of deal with the Schubert's Tubes and the Strike King Tubes. His brother Randy was a large distributer/tackle shop in Michigan and was a distributer for Schuberts Tubes. KVD catches fish on them and all of a sudden it was a Strike King prototype, next season and Poof!! Strike King has a super salty tube with KVD's pic all over the bag!! Happens all the time in the fishing industry. Everyone here at this site can learn a valuable lesson fr0m this!! Everybody pays and no one rides for free!!
  10. Boy that KVD and Strike King are some real innovators!! Hats off to LuckyCraft
  11. Damn Sterling, You got your hands in everything baitwise!! Nice photo album and great pics!!! Been using those football heads you made for me and they are awesome. Don't have to worry about any fish straightening the hook out on those babies!! BlackJack
  12. V-Man, Never really had a problem similar to what you were explaining. When I use this bait it is not a cast and retrieve. The bait is literally dropped over the side of the boat and lowered to the depth the fish are at(anywhere from 15' to 50') The bait is a drop bait I usually jig the bait about 8" to 12" up and down. Most bites occur when the bait is on the fall. I see alot of guys fishing these style baits jerking their rod up and down imparting to much action and this is usually when the hooks will foul.
  13. Tenn. Shad, Smokey Joe, Red Craw all popular colors on the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries
  14. Here is a tip I recieved from one of the Pro's that I work with. This guy is a sliver buddy machine and smallmouth guru. Some hooks have a hard temper so you will have to experiment with different manufacturers hooks to find the style that you like and works the best. I have found that the Triple Grip hooks work awesome. The reason to not use split rings is that when you fight the fish the play that a split ring allows will give the fish leverage to throw the bait. Have caught smallies 45' deep up to 4 ponds on this same setup
  15. I have been making baits using balsa and epoxy to hold the hook hangers in and have never had a fish pull one out. (I only manufacture for the bass market). I guess it all depends upon the density of the balsa you are using. I use Med. Heavy Balsa which is very similar in density and strength to basswood. If you are using a light balsa that would be used for making model planes and gliders then I would venture to say that the laminating process would be the way to go!!

  18. Dixie art is a great place to start for acrylic flip-flop paint
  19. Flip flop paint contains a special pigment that is shaped like a pyramid. On one face of the pigment structure is Color A on the side adjacent to Color A is Color B. When the pigment is mixed as a paint and applied to an object it appears as Color A, when the object is tilted or moved the color changes because you are viewing a different facet of the pyramid. If it sprayed on a round or curved object, little to no movement is needed to complete the color shift. To utilize this type of pigment it is usually applied over a dark basecoat, I enjoy using it applied over a white basecoat as it makes for an excellent scale pattern that is not very noticiable until the bait is moved
  20. Love this color, caught a ton of fish on it on the Deep Little N, catches the snot out of them on this bait as well!!

  23. Finally got around to playing with the new digital video camera, I will be updating my website with a new look for the coming busy season and providing video of all of my baits for customers to view, you guys get the premiere of the first video of my "Nomad" Let me know what ya think!! http://nomadlures.com/media/Produce.wmv
  24. All epoxies will yellow somewhat overtime when exposed to the elements, It is the nature of the beast! I do not use either product for a finish coat but do utilize devcon as a sealer and as an adhesive. I would imagine if you applied a UV block over a top coat epoxy finish it would certainly retain its original clarity
