Hey JigMan, There are several different grades of babbit. The two that I know anything about are Textile and Genuine. Textile melts at 460 F and pours at 630 F Genuine melts at 460 F and pours at 800 F I would guess you have Genuine the way it acts. Coley

An easy way to get good centers is with a movable machinist vice. After the piece is clamped in the jaws, you can move it left and right or forward and backwards. It bolts to a drill press table. Coley

As soon as you pull the jig out of the powder, blow hard at the hole. This works pretty good for me. Otherwise let them cool and clean the hole out before you cure them in the oven. I haven't tried this but, you might wrap a small piece of alum. foil around the eye and pull it off as soon as you pull the jig out. Coley

I seal my baits with a 50-50 mix of polyurethane and acetone. The reason I do this is because the humidity is so high in TN it takes several days for the poly to dry without the thinner. Coley

Hey Eagle, All of us started at one time or another. If it wasn't for Jerry, Tim, Skeeter, Celt, Nathan, Ken and many others. It would of taken me no telling how long to learn the basics. They shared a wealth of knowledge with me and I am willing to share what I have learned from them with you. Using a proven design to start with, helps a lot. The first lure I made sunk, wrong wood and too much weight. It swims OK. Would probably work OK along a deep bluff as a countdown. I get frustrated as of today. I hope you know how to cuss and throw things. LOL Coley

I see crankbaits with several different lip designs in them. I am sure each lip design has a purpose. Can someone tell me the purpose of the following designs: Coffin lip?? Round lip?? Straight lip?? Thanks, Coley

I have 3 mudbugs, 1 small and 2 med. I know I have a large one somewhere. I could probably trace the lip and mail it to you. I make the old wooden bombers and their lips were made from .020 " half hard brass. Thats what I use. You can buy an 8 ft. X 6" roll for around $18. Coley

I use stinger hooks on my Sauger jigs. But, instead of tying them on mono try hanging a brass snap swivel over your hook. Dip it in plasti dip. A size 10 is what I use. I use a larger stinger hook than most people. size 6 Coley

A pair of willow leaf blades attached to a Janns 1/2 oz lipless crankbait. I fit them, painted lure, then attached them before devcon completely set up. This didnot change action of the lure at all. Looks good in water. Lots of flash. Coley

CNC stands for Computer Numerically Controlled. In this case I would guess its a computer controlled type of metal cutting machine or lathe. Coley

While in Wal/Mart the other day, I came up on some Craft Bells. They are 6mm dia. jingle bells. 2 packs of 12 for $ 1.00. I bought them. When I got home I opened one of the bells up. The outside is made of fairly hard metal, the inside had a piece of solid brass rod about 3/32" x 3/32" . They are pretty loud inside a bait. Style jb6-G Coley

Yes, acrylic paint will work OK with a Devcon 2 ton overcoat. I use them on 1 oz. Sauger jigs. I fish a rocky bottom, bouncing them constantly. Yes they hold up. Coley

I have one heck of a time trying to paint eyes. What ever I am using will to paint with will slip and make a mess. So, I have figured out a way to make my own stick on eyes with a hole punch and plastic colored tape. You can buy hole punches up to 2" in dia. All we need here is a 3/8" , a 1/4" and a 1/8" and in some cases maybe a 1/2". Plastic tape comes in many different colors. So you can see you can make the eye one color and the pupil another. Stick them together and stick them on the bait. so simple. Coley
