    Foil Minnows

    Great job, Gene!
  5. If you are going to through wire, which one you use won't matter. From my personal experience, Alumilite RC-3 is the easiest to work with. I have used all of them. I will never try foam again.
  6. A detail gun would be a much better choice for auto clear than an airbrush. Check Harbor Freight, $12.99
  7. WOW, TU get-together this year was one of the best I have been to. So much knowledge was shared as I am sure some of you will see later. Meeting some new faces, Jason's card tricks were unreal. Deb and Nate were as always, were outstanding hosts. Some of the dips are hard to believe, I am sure we all put on a pound or two. All meals were terrific. Looking forward to the next one, regardless of where it is. Coley

    Tu Get Together

Well, MuskyGary, the event was posted on Feb 18, 2010. In the TU Events section. Coley
  9. I am very disappointed that there has been nothing said about the 2010 Get Together in Clinton MO the last weekend in April. It was one of the best we have had. On Thursday all that were there went to Cabela's in Kansas City Kansas. Friday was spent working on baits and discussing differen't methods of doing things. Thanks to Jerry and his wife for the nice hats and tee's. Nathan and Deb were their usual GREAT hosts. I really need that potato recipe, Deb. Saturday we had a live feed to TU from Clinton, I think this can be improved upon at future meets. All in all, it was a wonderful time had by all despite the rain Friday and Saturday. Meeting Tim Hughes, oh, you know the guy that painted for Basspro but, now mostly designs for Basspro was a nice experience. Thanks for coming Tim. If you have never been, you should really consider coming, Coley
  10. Coley, Am I assuming correctly that you mix a larger batch for multiple baits? You mention mixing .300 oz. of each part in the smaller cup, is this the amount you are using for one bait. If not how big is the bait you are pouring that you need that large a volume of resin. Just trying to compare bait size. I use a total of 2 oz. of resin and 1.75 TBS of microballoons for a seven inch bait. When and why are you dusting the molds with the baby powder, never heard that one before. You can always learn something new. Thanks, DaveB. KelpKritter Actually the amount I use on my baits varies. Some take .235 oz of each and some take more. I have poured enough to get it about right with no waste. I only pour one bait with each mix in the smaller cup, reason being, I mix the resins together until the cup starts to get warm. About the powder. I use some off brand baby powder. The powder does three things it fills in any small pin holes in the casting, allows the resin to flow freely through the mold and makes the casting very, very smooth.
  11. Hey Phil, Coley here. I cast 80% of my baits. What resin are you using? As hard as I tried I was never able to have any luck with foam castings. All my baits are cast from RC-3 from Alumilite. This is a Urethane Resin. You will need a good scale to get it right. I pour 3.5 oz of part A (by weight) into a 9 oz cup I pour 3.5 oz of part B (by weight) into separate a 9 oz cup. I add 3 1/2 Tablespoons of Micro balloons to each cup. Mix both well and keep mixed well during the process. I then add .300 oz of each part to a 3 oz cup. Mix well and pour slowly into mold. Pour in a very thin stream or resin may clog pour hole before you finish. Dust your mold with baby powder or similar and bang molds against each other to remove excess powder. Check TU for a live feed from Clinton on Sat, May 1st, I may be doing this on the feed. Good luck.
  12. I am from WV myself. Born and raised in Harrison County, city of Clarksburg. Sure would love one of those WV hot dogs.
  13. Nate, Charlie & I will be there. I will be glad to do the following. How make an RTV silicone mold. How to cast (pour) a resin bait. How to make a master mold of a bait you like. I will do a lot of prep work before the get together. Coley

    Clean Lips

I do number 1. I hold the bait vertical with the lip slot up. Using your clear coat, go ahead and apply around the head and in the lip slot. I like to put more on the lip and then insert the lip into the slot slowly. Using what runs out the sides of the lip slot to start coating the sides of the lure. You will get a perfect seal at the lip joint and your lip will be nice and clean. Coley
  15. Hope you make it Ted. Coley
  16. After date change, looks like Charlie and I will be there. We will be staying at the Hampton Inn. Coley
  17. Try here: Ranger Ink
  18. Alumilite RC-3 works great for cranks, just add about 80% Microballoons by volume to the mix.
  19. I use Alumilite RC-3, makes a great crankbait. Microballoons must be added to make it float.

    Birthday

    Happy Birthday Nathan.
  21. The real thanks goes to Deb and Nate for their overwhelming hospitality. The fantastic food, deserts, dips, and especially the strawberry, sour cream and brown sugar. Nice to see some old faces and meet some new ones. Those of you that tried, but could not make it, hope to see you next year. Have several pics to post, if I can figure out how to re size them. A huge thanks to Jerry and Mrs. Jerry for the caps and tee shirts. Thanks Cadman for the powder paint and the demo. Thanks to KC for more on how to paint, this guy is amazing. Glad Don and Pat stayed for the hobo. Looking forward to 2010
  22. Weather forecast for Clinton is no rain and temps high 70's to mid 80's. Much improved over last years constant rain.
  23. Yes, I would. I am not going to build a mold. only one response and I didn't order any material. Too late to do so now.
  24. I would like to see a sub-heading under hardbaits just for mold making and casting of baits. There is a lot of interest on this subject. But, its scattered all over the site. What do you guys think??
